Local roundup: Muncy’s Ava Eyer becomes school’s all-time goal scorer

Muncy’s Ava Eyer etched her name in history when it comes to girls soccer. The Indians cruised past CMVT, 13-0, in a Mid-Penn battle and Eyer’s two goals put her at 77 for her career, becoming the school’s all-time goal scorer in the process.
She moved past Emilie Nagel (2020-23) and Aleaha Bigelow (2016-19), who shared the record with 76.
“I am extremely proud of Ava. She is a great athlete and an even better teammate and person. I don't know if becoming the all-time leading goal scorer was ever her ultimate goal, but more of a by-product of her most important goal – winning (and she has helped the team achieve a plethora of that over her career),” Muncy coach Jason Gresh said. “She has put the work in and has certainly paid the price, playing through many injuries.
“As a younger player, she had the opportunity to play with some great scorers and leaders (Emilie Nagel, Addi Eyer, Ella Nagel, etc.) and took the opportunity to learn from them. Just like each of them, she has left a legacy and wants nothing more than for the next generation to continue and surpass it.”
Eyer tied the record in the 39th minute and then broke it in the second half with a goal in the 54th minute. Kiki Woodward scored five goals for Muncy in the win while Amelia Beckman and Lula Dixon each added two.
South Williamsport and Millville battled to a 2-2 draw in Mid-Penn action. South took the lead on a penalty kick by Kloey Persun before Millville’s Brianna Kolk tied it on a PK of her own for a 1-1 halftime score.
Seven minutes into the second half, Millville scored for a 2-1 lead by Sierra Cronauer. The Mounties continued battling, however, and Coco Kline scored off assist by Ayla Minier a minute later and tied it.
Montgomery saw four players score in a 4-1 win against Sullivan County. The Griffins’ Quinn Pannella scored on a penalty kick. Brooke Knoebel, Brijit Rupert , Ryleeanne Rupert and Aleaha Grimm scored for the Red Raiders, who out-shot the Griffins 19-7.
Montoursville and Milton battled to a 1-1 tie. Kyleigh Ficks scored off an assist by Maeve Ficks in the 24th minute before Montoursville’s Emalyn Jones scored off a Kinsley Schon assist in the 32nd minute. Abby Strassner had five saves for the Warriors.
• Loyalsock used a dominant second-half performance to earn a 5-1 win on the road against Southern Columbia. The Tigers opened the scoring 6:18 into the match, but Loyalsock responded not long after when Luke Edmonds found the back of the net to tie it up at the break, 1-1.
The Lancers came out quickly in the second half with David Bjorkman scoring within the opening five minutes for a 2-1 lead. Aiden Wetzler, Gabe Mauro and Owen Peck also scored to help Loyalsock win.
Wesley Johnson, Edmonds and Caleb Hartsock had assists.
In goal, Kason Burrows earned the win wtih two saves.
With just over two minutes left, Montoursville’s CJ Lucas found the back of the net to give Montoursville a 1-0 win on the road against Jersey Shore. Lucas scored the goal off a header in the 78th minute to help give the Warriors the win. Jersey Shore out-shot the Warriors, 8-7.
Carter Gormont scored five goals and dished out a pair of assists as Hughesville cruised past Bloomsburg on the road, 10-0. The Spartans recorded seven first-half goals. Landen Miller scored twice and had two assists while Patrick Stine had a pair of assists.

Five players found the back of the net in Wellsboro’s 5-0 win against Galeton. Octavian Wyman, Gabe Cuneo, Colin Fletcher, Mason Brill and James Doughtie all recorded goals for the Green Hornets with Liam Stevens, Fletcher and Brill adding assists.
Central Mountain held off Milton in the second half for a 3-2 victory. Eli Sandico and Yayfran Sanchez both scored in the first half for a 2-0 lead. Milton cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second half in the 49th minute when Orrie Godown scored off a Tobin Strous assist. Just 35 seconds later, Gabe Killinger of Central Mountain put the Wildcats back ahead by two.
Strouse scored in the 55th minute on a Godown assist, but Central Mountain wouldn’t allow a game-tying goal in the final 25 minutes of play.
Midd-West took a one-goal lead into the break, but Lewisburg scored three second-half goals by three different players en route to the 3-1 victory against their rivals. Mason Pawling, Dylan Vogel and Keegan Crosby all scored in the second half. Crosby, Riley Gulden-Luthi and Daedrian Campbell all had assists.
• Loyalsock secured a 5-0 win in girls tennis over Mifflinburg. Emily Crawford, Caroline Crawford and Vivian Reem all earned 6-1, 6-0 victories at Nos. 1-3 singles, respectively. Emily Crawford beat Alice Grill at NO. 1 singles, Caroline Crawford beat Holly Swartz at No. 2 and Ream beat BReanna Zimmerman at No. 3.
In doubles competition, Lashlyn Sauers and Annalise Berger had a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles over Megan Blake and Mary Turner. The Lancers’ team of Kaylene Kriner and Kinsley Hill earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Charlie Midkiff and Yuliza Damelio at No. 2 doubles.
Muncy beat Milton, 4-1. Zoe Dohl picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Madison Coup at No. 1 singles. Both Nos. 2 and 3 singles matchups were three-set thrillers.
At No. 2 singles, Milton’s Elliot Brosious dropped the first set to Lola Fox, 6-3, before rallying to win 6-4, 10-5. At No. 3 singles, Muncy’s Elizabeth Howard won the first set over Milton’s Lilley Tillson, 6-3, before dropping a 6-3 second set. In the decisive third set, Howard won, 10-4.
Montgomery swept Bucktail, 5-0. Arianna Snyder won at No. 1 singles over Kelsie Wagner in a three-set contest, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Montgomery’s Emily Miller defeated Makenna Phillips, 6-0, 6-2, and at No. 3 singles, it was Montgomery’s Avelyn Moore who defeated Riley Satizzoni, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles action, Leane Fouqet and Laine Solano beat Olivia Henderson and Rebekah Conway of Bucktail, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Sophia Snyder and Maddie Hamm beat Bucktail’s Kaitlin Paloskey and Emma Gentzyel, 6-2, 6-3.
South Williamsport improved to 6-2 by blanking Towanda, 5-0.
At No. 1 singles, South’s Mylee Morrison beat Nadia Alderfer, 7-5, 6-0. South Williamsport’s Ava Foote beat Dalila Vega, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles and at No. 3 singles, Caroline Melvin beat Natalee Hicks, 6-2, 6-1.
South’s Peyton Coolidge and Carly Loudenslager beat Towanda’s Johna Miller and Olivia Masters, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. South’s Abby Young and Lily Sanford earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles against Towanda’s Rilyn Bonavita and Keira McNeal.
• The Williamsport girls and boys cross country teams both went 3-0 in meets against Loyalsock, South Williamsport and Midd-West. Seven of the top eight finishers in the girls race were from Williamsport with Isabelle Sanders winning in a time of 17 minutes, 15 seconds. Her sister Madeline was second in 17:35 and Loisa Hofstrom third in 18:19.
Williamsport’s boys also had seven of the top eight finishers in their victories. Noah Baird won in 16:32, edging out teammate Brysen Thornton who finished just a second behind. Lauger Waltman took fourth in 16:48.
Central Mountain’s boys team swept a tri-meet against Warrior Run and Selinsgrove, placing six runners in the top 10. Warrior Run’s Cooper Deitterick won the race in 17:44. Central Mountain’s Shane Walker was second in 19:26. All but one of the finishers from Nos. 5-10 was from Central Mountain.
In the girls race, Central Mountain’s Gabriella La Hosley finished fourth in a time of 22:25. Selinsgrove won the meet and took the top three places.
Lewisburg’s Tyler Confer ran a time of 16:34.10 to take third in a boys cross country meet with Danville and Montoursville. Danville beat Lewisburg (22-35) and Montoursville (18-45) while the Green Dragons beat Montoursville (19-43). Montoursville’s top finisher was Cy Haight, who finished fourth in 16:36.20. Lewisburg’s Thomas Graham was fifth in 16:38.00.
On the girls side of the meet, Danville beat Lewisburg (17-43) and Montousville (15-50) while Lewisburg beat Montoursville (15-44). Lewisburg’s Kaelyn Bozella ran a 20;15.40 to take fourth, behind a trio of Danville runners. Danville’s Odin Ryer (19:19.40), Janie Cotner (19:19.60) and Isabelle Gabrielsen (19:36.50) took the top three spots, respectively. Montoursville’s top finisher was Natalie Tucker, who took 15th in 22:05.30.
Canton, Wellsboro and Sullivan County competed in a tri-meet. On the girls side, Lauren Kosek ran a time of 21:00 to take first and was the only runner to run a time of 22:30 or faster. Zoey Reese of Sullivan ran 22:45 for second place and teammate Addisyn Templin was third in 22:53. The Griffins took the second through sixth spots. Paige Jordan was fourth (22:58), Kara Jordan was fifth (23:26) and Addie Thibodeault was sixth (23:40).
Wellsboro’s Molly Tice ran a 24:40 for seventh.
Calen Sweigart ran a time of 17:14 to win the boys race between Canton and Sullivan County. Canotn’s Manuel Halbfoerster ran an 18;00 for second place, but the Griffins’ Chase Preston (18:20), Carter Blasi (18:32), Isaiah Botsford (18;35) and Seth Sweigart (18;36) took the third through sixth spots, respectively.
• In girls volleyball, Hughesville recently earned a 3-1 win over Loyalsock to remain undefeated this season. Anna Easton had a team-high 15 kills while Alice Hopkins recorded seven, Elizabeth papapanu had five, Kierra Sheets recorded three and both Ella Mowrey and Lyla Kinney had two. Davanee Hoover recorded one.
The win marks the first time in program history that Hughesville is ranked No. 1 within District 4 thanks to its perfect record.
“We know the ranking can change as the season continues, but we are certainly enjoying the moment and celebrating what this team has accomplished so far,” Hughesville coach Brandi Dillon said.
Loyalsock beat Midd-West in a close contest, 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 15-13). Madi Mercaldo, Peyton Phillips and Sarah Hodrick all had eight kills while Aly Hughes and Maddy Williams had five.
Loyalsock saw Hodrick have a team-high four aces while Maddy Williams had three. The Lancers’ Sophia Wetzel had 17 digs and Hughes recorded seven.
Wellsboro earned a 3-1 win vs. Williamson (25-9, 25-22, 27-29, 25-22). Peyton Keane had a team-high 15 kills while Kendall Sweet and Ady Frantz both posted 11 for Wellsboro. The Green Hornets’ Jillian Mickey recorded 25 assists and Ellie Largey had 23 and Maddy Cruttenden had a solid performance with 40 digs. Largey had 22 points.
• Penn College defeated Pitt.-Bradford, 4-2, in non-conference men’s soccer action. The Wildcats scored three times in the first half and put 10 of their 17 shots on goal, while Owen Ragula recorded 10 saves. PCT moved to 3-2-1 overall. Pitt.-Bradford is 1-4-0 overall.
The Wildcats opened the first half with Warrick Beachy’s goal off Diego Diaz’s assist at 9:01, then added goals from Andrew Mathes and Jimmy Friedman to build a 3-0 lead. Ragula made five saves, including three after Friedman’s goal, as PCT took the 3-0 advantage into halftime.
The Panthers, cut the margin to 3-2 at 72:18 before Christian Bressler scored at 85:31 to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 4-2 late in the second half. Ragula made four second-half saves as PCT finished the match with a 4-2 win.
• Penn College defeated Penn St.-Altoona, 3-1, in women’s soccer. The Wildcats scored twice in the first half and finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots, including 10-6 on goal.
The Wildcats struck twice in the opening 10 minutes, with Lily Persing scoring at 7:58 off Makayla Bucks’ assist and again at 9:36 from Sierra Klinger’s pass for a 2-0 lead. The goals followed two saved shots from Camryn Lobb, and Harley Oliphant made two saves later in the half. Penn St.-Altoona pulled within 2-1 on Chloe LaRosa’s goal at 39:28, but the Wildcats took that lead into halftime.
Persing scored from Lobb’s assist at 49:02, extending the Wildcats’ lead to 3-1 early in the second half. This marked the first time this season that Persing has scored three goals in a game. Penn College kept pressure on later with three-shot stretches from 64:54 to 67:37 and 77:47 to 82:14, while Harley Oliphant made three saves after halftime. The Wildcats closed out the second half without allowing a goal and finished a 3-1 win.
• Three players swept both doubles and singles action as the Lycoming College women’s tennis team earned their second consecutive win, defeating Houghton University, 5-2, in non-conference action.
Lycoming (2-0) won their first two matches of the season for the first time since 2024, taking two doubles matches and four singles tilts over Houghton (0-7).
In doubles action, junior Sadie Stahl (a South Williamsport gradute) and freshman Emma Dubnansky roared out to a 5-0 lead on their way to a 6-2 triumph in No. 1 doubles, while freshman Agi Gecsey and junior Reyna Kirick won their No. 3 doubles match by an identical 6-2 count.
• Sophomores Emi Wenger and Addison Morgan each recorded double-doubles for the Lycoming College volleyball team, which fell in their home opener, 3-1, to DeSales at Lamade Gym.
After falling 25-17 and 25-14 in the first two sets, Lycoming (2-6) trailed the third set 13-7 before tying the set with a 10-4 run. Both sides traded points well past the regulation 25 points before the Warriors prevailed in the longest set of the year, extending the match with a 31-29 set win. DeSales (8-0) took the fourth set 25-7 to win the match.
Wenger finished with a career-high 13 kills and a season-high 15 digs for her first double-double of the season. Morgan cleared 20 assists for the third consecutive match, racking up a career-best 27 assists, plus a career-best 15 digs. A third sophomore, Kamryn Skeith finished with 10 kills, while freshman August Dellinger tallied 10 digs.
• Sophomore Tre Lesperance posted the Lycoming College golf team's second eagle of the season to highlight the team's second-place finish in a tri-meet with the University of Scranton and King's College. The Warriors finished with a 35-over-par 315, 10 strokes ahead of King's College, but behind Scranton, which posted a 4-under-par team round of 276.
Lesperance finished sixth with a 3-over-par 73, eagling the par-5, 532-yard No. 12 and also posting a birdie on the par-5, 508-yard No. 11. He also added 10 pars in the round.
