Local roundup: Sellers, Temple help lift Hughesville girls to 9-1 win over Muncy

Regan Sellers scored four goals and Katelyn Temple had two goals and two assists to propel Hughesville to a 9-1 rout against defending District 4 Class A champion Muncy in girls soccer action on Thursday evening.

The Spartans out-shot Muncy, 42-10. Jaysa Kiess and Savanna Bruder also put in goals for Hughesville. Muncy avoided the shutout in the 79th minute when Ava Eyer converted a penalty kick. Kalia Hack and Kinley Woolever combined for 10 saves in goal for Hughesville while Hailey Ganoe had 24 for the Indians.

Hughesville scored four minutes into the game and then scored three goals in a 90-second span to balloon its lead from 1-0 to 4-0 fast.

• For the first time in more than 650 days, Lewisburg’s boys soccer team suffered a loss.

The Green Dragons’ Keegan Crosby scored a goal with 1:46 to play until halftime off an assist by Riley Gulden-Luthi to go into the break up 1-0. But two second-half goals by Central Columbia gave the BLue Jays a 2-1 win over Lewisburg.

After a 24-0-1 season in 2025, it was Lewisburg’s first loss since a state playoff loss in November, 2024.

Jameson Lapos had both second-half goals, scoring less than four minutes into the second half to tie the game before convering a penalty kick with 8:07 remainig to put Central Columbia ahead, as the Blue Jays’ defense held from there.

Both teams had seven shots on goal and Gabe Pawling recorded three saves for Lewisburg.

Montgomery suffered a tough 1-0 loss against Meadowbrook Christian on the road.

“The Lions played well and were just the better team tonight,” Montgomery coach Michael Sherman said.

The Red Raiders weren’t able to put in an equalizer. Montgomery hosts Wyalusing on Saturday.

Conor Irwin played well in goal including coming up with a solid penalty kick save with two minutes to play to help keep it a one-goal deficit, allowing the Red Raiders a chance to try to score.

Williamsport fell to State College, 6-0. Max Fink had 12 saves in goal for the Millionaires. State College held an 18-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Williamson defeated North Penn-Liberty, 2-1. David Graf scored a goal with 27:36 to play in the first half to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead, but Williamson scored five minutes later to tie it before adding a goal with 7:17 left until halftime to take a lead.

Tobin Strous, Gabe Heise and Caleb Langdon all scored for Milton against Southern Columbia, but the two squads battled to a 3-3 double-overtime draw. The Black Panthers held a 3-2 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the game. But in the 77th minute, Southern’s Jake Gehret put in an equalizer and the two played scoreless from there to draw.

Loyalsock suffered a 5-1 loss against Benton. Jusus Miller scored his first varsity goal in the second half as Luke Edmonds assisted him.

“Tonight wasn’t the result we wanted, but every game gives us an opportunity to learn something about ourselves,” Loyalsock coach Steve Ertel said. “We’ll own it, learn from it and get back to work.”

Southern out-shot Milton, 14-10. Strouse and Ryker King had assists for Milton. Kole Myers had two goals for Southern and Gehret added an assist.

• Williamsport traveled to Lake Lehman in girls volleyball and picked up a victory, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19). Peyton Dincher had a team-high 17 serving points while Jenna Schmidt had 15 and Mollie Roan had 11. Pippy Kieser had nine kills, Dincher had 13 assists, Libby Radspinner had 10 assists and Dincher led Williamsprot with seven digs.

Williamsport also saw Kieser, KAdence Smith, Roan and Ellie Kinley post six digs.

With the win, Williamsport heads to Troy on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. game next.

Towanda defeated Wellsboro, 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-15). Ellie Largey had a team-high 11 assists for the Green Hornets while Jillian Mickey had nine. Peyton Keane had eight kills, Ady Frantz recorded six and Kendall Sweet had five. Maddy Cruttenden had 10 digs for the Green Hornets while Sweet and Keane both posted eight and Largey had a team-high seven points while Cruttenden and Mickey posted six.

Gena Fleming had a team-high three blocks and Frantz and Teagan Novinger had one block each for the Green Hornets.

• Loyalsock defeated Williamsport in golf competition, 176-184. Bryson Rankinen led the Lancers by shooting a 40, Garrett Rankinen shot a 44, Carter Mileto shot a 48 and Blair Bower had a 44.

Williamsport was led by Waylon Edler’s 39 while both Jaxson March and Leon Kinley each shot 47s. Alex Takach had a 63.

• Cassi Saldarini scored a pair of goals just under two minutes apart in the late stages of the second half, lifting unbeaten Delaware to a 2-0 victory over Bucknell in non-league women's soccer action at muggy Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium.

The Blue Hens, ranked No. 7 in this week's United Soccer Coaches South Region Poll, improved to 3-0-3 with their third straight shutout, while Bucknell dropped its third straight to fall to 3-4.

Delaware outshot Bucknell 10-9, but the Blue Hens held the ball for most of the match with a methodical, possession-oriented attack. The visitors had 71 percent of the possession in the first half and 65 percent for the game, and they finally found the breakthrough in the 74th minute when Saldarini got a slight touch on Ava Sallee's service.

It was enough to redirect the ball past Bison keeper Sarah McFarland, and then just 1:54 later it was Saldarini again nudging the ball over the line after two Bucknell defenders couldn't get the ball cleared after a McFarland save.
