Local roundup: Sock boys soccer cruises past Troy 7-0

Loyalsock continued its strong play Saturday with a convincing 7-0 victory over Troy at home in boys soccer action. The Lancers scored four times in the first half before adding three more goals after the break to secure the shutout.
Trenton Miller and David Bjorkman each scored twice for the Lancers, while Wesley Johnson, Luke Edmonds and Justus Miller also found the back of the net. Aiden Wetzler and Luke Edmonds each recorded three assists, while Johnson added an assist.
Isaac Balza and Conor Hofstrom both scored and Williamsport earned a tight 2-1 win against Crestwood. The Comets’ goal came from Gage Kaye. The Millionaires out-shot Crestwood, 13-11, as Max Fink had seven saves to help preserve the win.
Ryan Kemock scored two goals as Warrior Run moved to 4-1 with a 6-0 win against South Williamsport. Ori Kennel, Julius Frombach, Garrison Cromley and Josh Grenoble all scored while Kemock and Grenoble both added assists.
The Defenders held a 17-5 advantage in shots on goal in the win.
Lewisburg scored a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 hard-fought win against State College on the road to improve to 4-1. Everett Good scored in the first half off an assist by Daedrian Campbell before Lincoln Ayres had a goal off an assist by Eli Abunassar.
The Green Dragons narrowly out-shot State College, 6-4, as Gabe Pawling had four saves for his 45th career shutout.
Northumberland Christian secured a 4-2 win over Jersey Shore thanks to three first-half goals.
Jersey Shore’s goals came from Dylan Hensler, who scored the first goal off an assist by Ezra Paulhamus before sinking a penalty kick.
Dylan Tomlinson tied the game up for Wellsboro in the 58th minute off an assist by Mason Brill and the Green Hornets and Montoursville played scoreless soccer from there en route to a 2-2 draw.
Montoursville’s CJ Lucas and Wellsboro’s Gabe Cuneo scored the game’s first two goals off penalty kicks. Liam Lucas scored in the 55th minute off an assist by Hunter Mumbauer to give the Warriors a brief 2-1 lead before Wellsboro tied it just three minutes later.
Mason Fry had six saves for Montoursville and Camden Bryant recorded three for Wellsboro.
• A goal in each half helped Hughesville’s girls soccer team defeat South Williamsport, 2-0, at South Williamsport’s Community Park.
Leah Lehman fed Jaysa Kiess a ball with 35:06 to play for the 1-0 lead going into the half. In the second half in the 58th minute, Regan Sellers scored off an assist by Ciara Campbell. Kalia Hack had 13 saves for the shutout in goal combined with a save from Kinley Woolever. South’s Annika Harding played well, recording 15 saves to keep the Mounties in the game.
Alexis Snyder scored the game’s only goal to give Warrior Run a 1-0 win against Loyalsock. Loyalsock and Warrior Run’s defenses played well as there were just five combined shots on goal. Melody Gardiner had two and the shutout for the Defenders while Ava Deknecht blocked two shots fired at her.
• Muncy’s field hockey team defeated Southern Columbia, 3-1, thanks to a hat trick from Selah Persing. Her first goal was assisted by Avery Waldman, the second goal was assisted by Ashlyn Lamper and her third goal was unassisted.
In goal, Madison Price had 10 saves for the Indians.
• Montgomery picked up a 4-1 win over Mifflinburg in girls tennis. Emily Miller won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2 against Breanna Zimmerman. At No. 3 singles, Avenlyn Moore of Montgomery won in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.
Montgomery’s Leane Foquet and Laine Solano (No. 1) and Sophia Snyder and Maddie Hamm (No. 2) both won 6-0, 6-0 in doubles competition for the Red Raiders.
Loyalsock earned a 5-0 win over rival Montoursville. Emily Crawford won 6-1, 6-3 against Elsa Kehrer at No. 1 singles while Loyalsock’s Caroline Crawford beat Bella Wanner, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.
In doubles action, Lashlyn Sauers and Annalise Berger earned a 6-0, 6-3 win vs. Mya Wilson and Laurel Calvert and at No. 2 doubles, it was Kaylene Kriner and Nadia Ghayyada who beat Tori McKenna and Brielle Twigg, 6-0, 6-1.
• North Penn-Liberty competed at the Corning Tournament in girls volleyball and Liberty’s Madison Smith, a senior, reached the 500-assist milestone in the process. The milestone game during Liberty’s game against Horseheads (N.Y.).
• Senior Ella Magee punched in a goal for the third consecutive game for the Lycoming College women’s soccer team, which fell, 5-1, to 19th-ranked Rochester.
Lycoming (1-3) held tough for a half before Rochester (4-0) pulled away with four second-half goals.
The Yellowjackets struck first in the 11th minute, when Sydney Holmes punched in a cross from Gabi Chioccola to give Rochester the early advantage. The Yellowjackets fired off 13 shots in total in the first half, but the Lycoming defense let no more through as it remained 1-0 at halftime.
Lycoming broke through in the 67th minute when Magee was taken down on a breakaway attempt and awarded a penalty kick. For the second game in a row, she buried the PK for her third tally in as many games, making it 4-1.
Mansfield suffered a setback to No. 25th-ranked Kutztown in a PSAC matchup, 4-0. Angel Gule had a nice outing in goal for the Mounties (1-4-0 | 0-3-0 PSAC), collecting eight saves and bringing her total to 40 on the year.
Kutztown (5-0-1 | 3-0-0 PSAC) scored a pair of goals in the first half and came back to match that number in the second half, putting themselves at four goals on the day and collecting the win.
Lock Haven women's soccer goalkeeper Devon Mason recorded her fourth consecutive shutout as the Bald Eagles took down Edinboro, 1-0, at home in a PSAC Western Division battle at Hubert Jack Stadium.
The Bald Eagles honored senior Riley Houck prior to the match for Senior Day.
Lock Haven has won four matches in a row, all by shutout, to improve to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC West on the year. The Bald Eagles have already matched their win total from 2025, while surpassing their win total in the conference.
Edinboro falls to 2-3-1 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Maci Shaffer scored the lone goal in the 52nd minute and Mason recorded her fourth straight shutout in net to secure the win.
• The Lycoming College men’s soccer team fell, 3-0, to Case Western Reserve University. Case Western Reserve (5-0) stayed perfect on the year. Cormac Apostolides scored twice for the Spartans, while Micah Rossen added the other goal and Owen Guffey assisted on two scores. Keeper Carter Shedd made one save.
Lycoming (2-2) junior keeper Jace Bennett stopped seven shots in goal for the Warriors.
The Warriors will return on Wednesday, Sept. 16 for a non-conference matchup against Mt. Aloysius.
Evan Jennings scored in the 82nd minute, but Bloomsburg found a late equalizer as the Lock Haven men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Huskies.
Jennings broke the scoreless deadlock in the 82nd minute, finishing for his first goal of the season to give Lock Haven a 1-0 advantage. The Bald Eagles held the lead until Bloomsburg's Ty Mikula scored in the 90th minute to level the match at 1-1.
Lock Haven goalkeeper Ethan Beck made eight saves in the draw, including a penalty-kick stop in the 43rd minute to preserve the scoreless tie entering halftime. The Bald Eagles generated nine shots, including four on target. Jennings scored on his lone shot on goal, while Patricio Zapata and Billy Lawrence each recorded two shots. Noah Brady added a shot on target off the bench.
• Three players scored for the Lycoming College field hockey team as it fell, 7-3, to the SUNY Brockport in non-conference action.
Lycoming (2-3) played even with Brockport (3-1) over the final three periods, but the Golden Eagles scored four goals in the first quarter.
The Warriors broke through when junior Lacy Eckard, a Muncy graduate, scored just over midway through the second, closing the gap to 5-1 at halftime on her first goal of the year.
Freshman Abie Niedermyer, a Muncy graduate, scored at the 7:34 mark in the third. In the fourth, senior Ava Daly scored off a pass from sophomore Dana Stumpf for the final tally of the afternoon.
• The Lock Haven men's cross country team traveled to compete in the DII/DII challenge hosted by Kutztown University.
The Bald Eagles finished third (63 points) as a team at the DII/DIII challenge. Point Park took the overall team win, scoring 35 points.
Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was Senior Jakob Rager, finishing second overall with a time of 25:58.2. Following closely behind was Kristian Mizdail, finishing fifth overall with a time of 26:19.7.
Will Campbell (27:31.8, 16th) and Sean Donahue (27:35.2, 17th) were just shy of the top-15 but had a strong showing for the Bald Eagles.
Penn College’s men’s crosse country team finished second among four point-scoring teams and its women’s were fourth of five at the Juniata Eagle Invitational.
Bryce Martin led Penn College’s men’s team with a second-place individual finish in 20:45.8, just three seconds behind Juniata’s Conrad Coffey (20:42.77). Chase Ebeling placed fourth in 21:20.6, Holden Furey finished seventh in 21:46.7 and Logan Bohrer rounded out the top 10 individually with a time of 22:09.3.
On the women’s side, Jersey Shore graduate Kate Butzler led the Wildcats, finishing sixth with a time of 21:53.25. Elaina Brady finished 10th (22:07.38), Amy Rohl came in 12th (22:34.24), Zoe Duhon placed 28th (30:28.51), and just ahead of teammate Emma Chilen (29th; 30:44.57).
Mansfield’s cross country teams competed at the DII/DIII Challenge. In the women's race Alyssa Parks was the top Mountie to finish crossing the line with a 6K time of 26:40.0. Mayla Falank was the next finisher earning a time of 27:27.60.
Wyoming Trudeaux, Libby Moore, and Brook Illsley, finished packed together with finishing times of 30:09.00, 30:11.70, and 30:11.7 respectively.
Abigail Davies finished one spot back in a time of 30:47.20. Freshmen Haley Larrabee and Riley Porter closed out the Mountaineer finishers with times of 32:13.1 and 34:07.30.
In the men's 8K, Nic Mattison was the initial Mountie to finish earning a time of 31:41.40. Carson Strano finished shortly behind with a time of 31:53.90 Greysen Kupsky rounded out the Mountie finishers with a time of 32:25.90.
• Junior Kayvan Shams, a South Williamsport graduate, reached the finals at No. 3 singles to highlight the first day of the King's College Invitational.
Shams notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Misericordia's James Martin and added a superset tiebreaker win over Landon Gleichauf of Wilkes, 5-7, 6-3, 10-8, to reach the final, where he will face Muhlenberg's Sam Stein on Sunday, Sept. 13, when the tournament resumes at Kirby Park.
Junior Logan Hammond, a Loyalsock graduate, and Shams also beat Marywood's Gavin Gagliardi and Zane Smoker, 7-5 to reach the semifinals at No. 2 doubles, where they fell 6-0, to a Wilkes team. At No. 3 doubles, freshman Teli Bobotas, a Montoursville graduate, and senior Thomas Anderson posted a 6-3 win over Marywood's Isaac Carpenter and Eddie Lennox before they fell to a Muhlenberg pair in the semifinals.
• Penn College women’s volleyball closed out its visit at the Rochester University Invitational on Saturday, suffering losses to both Clarkson and Smith, with final match scores of 3-0 in each contest. Against the Golden Knights, the set scores were 8-25, 9-25, and 12-25, while the Wildcats fell to the Bears, 15-25, 18-25, and 20-25. The Wildcats fell to 0-10 overall, while Clarkson improved to 5-2 and Smith moved to 8-0.
Lilly Stockum was named to the All-Tournament Team after compiling 16 kills, two aces and two block assists across four matches.
In the match against Clarkson, the Wildcats struggled to find their rhythm, with Clarkson opening the first set with four straight points, including three service aces from Chase Chudoba. Penn College managed some offensive highlights with kills from Stockum, Samantha Prisco, and Peyton Maass, along with an ace from Eleana Falkner, but Clarkson closed the set on an 8-0 run.
The Lock Haven women's volleyball team concluded its weekend at the Lock Haven Tournament with a 2-1 record in front of the home crowd at Thomas Fieldhouse. The Bald Eagles opened Saturday with a five-set setback to Edinboro before rallying for a five-set victory over Jefferson. Lock Haven swept Virginia State, 3-0, on Friday to begin the tournament.
Olivia Taylor and Maddy Fox were named to the All-Tournament Team following their performances throughout the weekend.
Lock Haven, which had won 12 straight sets entering Saturday's action, has now won five of its last six matches and moved to 6-4 overall on the season.
• Sophomore Tre Lesperance led the Lycoming College golf team with a 3-over-par medallist performance, as Lycoming had the top three finishers in a 315-351 dual meet win over Marywood University at the par-71, 6,392-yard Stonehedge Country Club.
Lesperance posted three birdies and 12 pars during his round, posting an even-par 36 on the front nine to win the dual meet by four strokes over senior Will Eberz, who notched a 7-over-par 78, carding two birdies and eight pars.
Freshman Seth Fisher, competing individually, posted a 9-over-par 80, posting a birdie and eight pars.
