In girls tennis, South Williamsport battled tough and earned a 3-2 win at Wellsboro. Wellsboro's only player to earn a singles victory was Amanda Goncalves, who defeated Mylee Morrison, 6-3, 6-3.
South Williamsport's Morgan Ertel beat Piper Anderegg 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Ava Foote beat Serenity Mosher, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
• Lewisburg moved to 1-1 with a 6-0 rout over Camp Hill in boys soccer. Daedrain Campbell and Everett Good both had two goals apiece. Eli Abunassar and Jack Kohl scored too.
Keegan Crosby had three assists while Campbell and Riley Gulden-Luthi had assists. The Green Dragons limited Camp Hill to just one shot on goal as Gabe Pawling had the shutout.
Jersey Shore battled Danville tough and earned a hard-fought 2-2 double overtime draw at home against the Ironmen. Dylan Hensler had both of the Bulldogs' goals as Ezra Paulhamus and Gabe Welshans had assists.
Danville's Jess Pena scored in the 33rd minute to tie the game at 1-all and Grady Gale scored a goal with less than four minutes left to tie it at 2-2 and force overtime.
Jersey Shore out-shot Danville, 14-5 and Aidan Lape had three saves.
Ben Shawder scored twice, including off a penalty kick, to give Towanda a 3-1 win over Wellsboro. The Green Hornets out-shot the Black Knights, 25-3, but all three shots by Towanda were for goals.
Warrior Run scored four goals in the final 40 minutes to defeat Millville, 4-1. Ryan Kemock and Carter McCormick both scored twice to lead the Defenders while Ori Kennel had an assist.
• Muncy's girls soccer team suffered a tough 3-2 loss against Pine Grove. Kiki Woodward and Ava Eyer scored both goals for the Indians.
Eyer scored off a Harleigh Miller assist in the 33rd minute to give Muncy a 2-1 lead before Pine Grove scored two goals in the 75th and 78th minutes, respectively, to go ahead and held on in the final two minutes.
Hailey Ganoe had eight saves for Muncy to keep the Indians in the game as Muncy now falls to 1-3.
A five-goal first half helped Warrior Run defeat Montgomery, 6-2. Scarlett Dunkleberger scored three goals while Natalie Hall, Lacey Betz and Reese Bingman all scored. Sophie Dufrene, Betz and Ivy Margargle added assists.
Aubrey Staggert had a pair of goals for the Red Raiders. In goal, Addison Gregor played well with 11 saves.
Lewisburg fell to Wyoming, 1-0, and North Schuylkill, 4-1. Against Wyoming, Norah Hockenbrock recorded eight saves, one of which blocked a penalty kick. Against North Schuylkill, Lewisburg's Kennedy North scored a goal off an assist by Payton Spigelmyer. Hockenbrock had three saves.
Milton's Kylie Ficks had a goal and assist to propel the Black Panthers to a 2-0 road win at Millville. Makayla Wolfe scored a goal while Avery Jones had an assist as well for Milton.
The Black Panthers out-shot Millville, 8-3.
• Penn College defeated Elmira, 2-1, in women's soccer at home. The Wildcats scored once in each half and finished with 11 shots, putting five on goal.
Megan Kurian scored from Ella Garman's assist in the 28th minute to put the Wildcats on the board first and held the 1-0 lead into the half. Camryn Lobb scored off Kurian's assist at 76:25 to extend the Wildcats' lead to 2-0 in the second half and Elmira closed out the match with a goal just before the horn for the 2-1 finish.
Kurianetted her fourth goal of the season and added an assist. Lobb scored the game-winning goal on her lone shot attempt while Harley Oliphant made four saves in goal.
North Penn-Mansfield graduate Brooke Wilcox, the school's all-time goal scorer, recorded Elmira's goal and finished with three shots, including two on goal. Amy Ferrier recorded an assist and put her lone shot on goal. Bella Thomas added two shots, both on goal. Sarah Cantrell played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves.
Junior Ella Magee, a Selinsgrove graduate, scored her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute to lead the Lycoming College women's soccer team, which fell to Westminster College, 2-1, at home.
After second-half goals from Westminster's Giulianna Russell and Amelia Brose, Magee got the Warriors (0-2) within a score, as she scored off a helper from senior Mikayla Long a Lewisburg graduate.
Sophomore Leah Elliott stopped two shots in net for the Warriors. Emily Codere made five saves to earn the win for the Titans (2-0-1), who were outshot, 20-15.
Lock Haven earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over California (Pa.), scoring both of its goals in the second half to secure the shutout victory. The victory is the second straight for The Haven, who improves to 2-2 on the year after back-to-back shutouts.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Bald Eagles broke through early in the second half. Brooke Gehret found the back of the net in the 51st minute, converting a feed from Lily O'Brien to give Lock Haven a 1-0 advantage.
Just over seven minutes later, Lock Haven doubled its lead. Colleen Lloyd scored her first goal of the season in the 58th minute, with Maci Shaffer providing the assist to put the Bald Eagles ahead 2-0.
Lock Haven's defense did the rest, limiting California (Pa.) to just three shots in the second half and four shots on goal for the match. Devon Mason recorded four saves across 90 minutes to earn the clean sheet.
• Sophomore Laurel Fite posted first- and fourth-quarter goals to lead the Lycoming College field hockey team to a 2-1 win over St. Francis University in non-conference action.
Fite got the Warriors (1-1) on the board with 4:30 left in the first quarter, when she deflected a shot by junior Lacy Eckard, a Muncy graduate, into the net. Just over two minutes into the fourth quarter, she struck again, this time off a give from senior Loghan Shelly, as Fite became the fourth Warrior since the program's reinstatement to reach 10 career goals with the score.
Julia Barto scored with 2:16 left in the game for the Red Wolves (0-2) with a shot from high in the arc, but the Warriors closed the door in the final moment to earn the win.
Mansfield overpowered the Southern Connecticut State University Owls, 6-3, as the opener to the 2026 season. Alyssa Czekai and Amanda Ray had a pair of goals and an assist on the game. Lydia Miller had five saves.
The Mountaineers started the day scoring early with freshman Czekai scoring a goal in minute four to take an early lead.
The Owls and Mounties would stay silent through the rest of the first period with both teams splitting offensive opportunities going into the second period. Mansfield opened the second with another goal from Kylee Boardman assisted by Ray to take a 2-0 lead.
• Laurel Fite scored first and fourth quarter goals, helping Lycoming's field hockey team defeeat St. Francis, 2-1, Saturday. Fite deflected a Lacy Eckhard shot into the net for the game's first goal and added her second early in the fourth. Fite became the fourth Warrior to reach 10 career goals since the program's reinstatement. Goalie Hilary Clark stopped seven shots.
Alyssa Czekai and Amanda Ray both score two goals and added assists, helping Mansfield down Southern Connecticut State, 6-3 in its season opener.
• Penn College faced tough competition at the DeSales Tournament, falling to Rutgers-Camden 3-0 and then to Immaculata 3-0, in women's volleyball.
Against Rutgers-Camden, the Wildcats dropped set scores of 13-25, 18-25, and 13-25 against Rutgers-Camden in the first match of the day. Penn College finished with 15 kills while Rutgers-Camden notched 39 kills with a .242 hitting percentage.
Lilly Stockum led Penn College with five kills and 7.5 points, contributing two service aces and a block assist. Peyton Maass recorded a team-high 13 digs and two kills, while Taryn Smith had six assists and five digs. Gilliam added five points with two kills, two service aces, and a solo block.
Gabby Gbolahan paced Rutgers-Camden with eight kills, a hitting percentage of .462, and one ace. JoAnna Andrews provided 19 assists, while Mia Owens and Nissi Wadieh also had significant contributions.
Against Immaculata: In their second match, Penn College faced Immaculata, where they lost in straight sets of 15-25, 22-25, and 15-25. The closest set for the Wildcats came in the second, where they took a brief lead after trailing by four points.
Three Lycoming College women's volleyball players finished with at least 10 kills to pace the team in a pair of matches at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College as the team fell to Messiah, 3-0 (25-9, 27-25, 25-19) and Marymount (Va.), 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-18).
Sophomore Emi Wenger led the way with 11 kills, notching seven against Marymount and four against Messiah. Sophomore Ellie Dunkelberger notched eight kills, hitting .400 against Marymount and had two kills against Messiah and junior Angela Farnham posted six kills against Messiah and four against Marymount.
Against Marymount (3-1 overall), the Warriors (1-3 overall) were paced by Dunkelberger and Wenger (seven kills, 10 digs), while senior Haley Balgavy posted 11 assists and eight digs and sophomore Addison Morgan added 10 assists, nine digs and three aces. Sophomore Lara DeFreitas (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) posted 13 digs, six assists and three aces and sophomore Gabrielle VonStein posted 11 digs.
Lock Haven traveled to Rochester, N.Y. to compete on the final day of the Roberts Wesleyan Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 5. Lock Haven wrapped up a perfect 3-0 weekend with a pair of victories by sweep over Redeemer (Canada) and Georgian Court.
Lock Haven also defeated the host Roberts Wesleyan on Friday to secure a perfect 3-0 mark at the tournament, which improves The Haven's record to 4-3 on the year.
Lock Haven received a balanced effort in its 3-0 sweep over Redeemer, led by Maddie Mitchell, who finished with a team-high 11 kills. Reagan Irons added nine kills, while Maddy Fox recorded eight kills to help pace the Bald Eagles' attack.
Natalie Gibson directed the offense with 34 assists, and Irons contributed two assists. Olivia Taylor led Lock Haven defensively with 15 digs, followed by Irons with 11 and Samantha Rouser with nine.
Lock Haven put the exclamation point on the perfect weekend with another convincing sweep over Georgian Court.
• Regan Jury finished 19th among 144 runners for Lycoming's cross country team at the Dutchmen Cross Country Invitational Saturday. Jury ran in a time of 20 minutes, 14 seconds and Sydney Taylor took 40th in 21:34.
Avery Rosan was the Lycoming men's top finisher, taking 116th in a time of 32:25 on the 8K course. Jacob Carr was next at 33:34.
Bucknell women's cross country began 50 years ago on Sept. 18, 1976 at the California State Invitational hosted by California (Pa.). The Bison women finished second after beating Lafayette, 21-40.
The Bison women last ran dual meets in 2011 when Bucknell defeated a pair of Steel City schools, Duquesne and Pittsburgh, on Sept. 17. Dual meets used to constitute the majority of cross country schedules in the olden days. The opportunity to revive the tradition arose when Lafayette accepted Donner's invitation for a Sept. 5 meet.
"I really appreciate that they were here and they got a good chance to see the course," Bucknell coach Kevin Donner said. "But we also got a good chance to see the course as well in a competitive situation and we won the meet pretty handily."
On the men's side, Bucknell beat Lafayette, 16-46. The Bison have only run two dual meets since 2001, but the opportunity to revive the tradition arose when Lafayette accepted coach Donner's invitation for a Sept. 5 meet.
"I really appreciate that they were here and they got a good chance to see the course," Donner said. "But we also got a good chance to see the course as well in a competitive situation and we won the meet pretty handily. This gives me a good gauge of where we're at right now on the men's side."
Junior captain Ethan Pratt-Perez won the race, logging 18:50.30. Pratt-Perez led from the opening gun and never relinquished his catbird seat. The 2025 All-Patriot League runner enters 2026 in the best shape of his running career and is expected to inherit Henry Didden's spot as the pacesetter.
• Junior Sadie Stahl, a South Williamsport graduate, and freshman Agi Gecsey reached the finals of their respective singles flights and two doubles teams also reached the finals of their flights to highlight a successful first day for the Lycoming College women's tennis team at the King's College Invitational.
Stahl posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over a competitor from Misericordia and a 6-1, 7-5 win over Muhlenberg to reach the finals at No. 2 singles. She will face a competitor from Rutgers-Camden in the finals. Gecsey notched a 6-0, 6-0 win in her first match against a King's Monarch before posting a 7-6 (5), 0-6, 10-3 win over Misericordia to reach her final at No. 6 singles.
Freshman Emma Dubnansky also added a singles win to reach the semifinals at No. 3 singles.
In doubles play, Stahl and Dubnansky beat Marywood, 6-0, in their opening match at No. 2 to reach the semifinals, where they will face Muhlenberg on Sunday. Junior Yeanneth Rosado and freshman Annalyse Marucci added a 6-1 win over King's in their semifinal match at No. 3 and sophomore Erica Gilligan and senior Marissa Caspersen posted a 6-4 win over Muhlenberg at No. 4 doubles to reach the final.
