Lock Haven football suffers 21-14 road loss to AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Lock Haven football team dominated the box score and held a 14-13 lead in the fourth quarter on the road, but American International scored the final touchdown of the game to sneak past the Bald Eagles, 21-14, on Saturday afternoon.

Lock Haven led 14-13 after Cureem Hathcock scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 14:56 remaining, capping a 56-yard drive and putting the Bald Eagles back in front.

However, the lead lasted less than a minute.

American International connected on a 74-yard touchdown pass on the Yellow Jackets' next offensive series and a successful two-point conversion gave AIC a 21-14 advantage.

Lock Haven had two more possessions but could not find the end zone.

In the first half, the Bald Eagles took a 7-3 lead when quarterback Carson Nagle, a Bald Eagle Area graduate, connected with Artie Poindexter for a 37-yard touchdown late in the first quarter and Lock Haven carried a 7-6 advantage into halftime.

AIC regained the lead early in the second half after returning an interception 56 yards for a touchdown, making it 13-7.

Nagle completed 20 of 37 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted four times. Poindexter caught five passes for 64 yards and a score, while Mekhi Watson led Lock Haven with six receptions for 73 yards.

Hathcock paced the Bald Eagles' ground game with 61 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Ezequiel Johnson added 53 yards on 11 carries.

Lock Haven outgained American International 357-310 and held advantages in first downs, 19-15, and rushing yards, 121-104. However, the Bald Eagles turned the ball over four times on interceptions, while AIC did not commit a turnover.

Raheem Reid led Lock Haven defensively with 12 tackles, while Q. McMillan added 11. LucRichard Rameau recorded a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.

The loss drops Lock Haven to 1-1 on the season. American International improves to 2-0.
