Loyalsock notes: Loyalsock (2-1) hits the road for the first time since its opener and is coming off an impressive 35-7 win against Wellsboro in which it imposed the mercy rule by the third quarter. The defense played its best game, allowing just 115 yards before a late 60-yard touchdown run. Lineman John Day had a big game and CJ Taylor intercepted a pass. Safety Ivan Baker has 25 tackles, including 20 solos and Matthew Rickard has 17 tackles with an interception. Sophomore Cooper Cowden is becoming a defensive weapon, making four tackles for loss and moving to second on the team in tackles. Baker has flourished in the backfield, starting there for the first time and moving to fourth among area rushers. He has topped 100 yards in both Loyalsock wins and averages 10.5 yards per carry. Cayden Sones ran for 93 yards and a touchdown in a season opening win at Central Columbia. Quarterback Dyson Dupont has burst out of the gates as a freshman starter, throwing for more than 100 yards and at least one touchdown in each game. Taylor, Carter Brown and Zion Cobb all have at least eight catches and have scored at least one touchdown. The offensive line has helped Loyalsock gain more than 300 yards in every game. Loyalsock shared the HAC-III championship with Bloomsburg and Warrior Run a year ago and may need to win out in the league to have a shot at the crown again.
Loyalsock player to watch--Wyatt Emerick: The senior center helps anchor the line and has played a vital role in the offense finding its groove early this year. Emerick also provides a spark at linebacker, averaging 4.7 tackles per game. All but two of his 14 tackles are solos.
Midd-West PPG--26.3, PPA--28.0; YPG--302,YPA--192.3
Midd-West notes: Midd-West (1-2) traditionally has featured a run-heavy offense but has gone vertical in a big way this season, now operating an Air Raid-style attack. Quarterback Witten Carter completed 18 of 39 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown in last week's loss at Warrior Run where the Mustangs ran just seven times. The previous week, Carter threw for 201 yards and four touchdowns against CMVT. His 39 completions are tied for second among District 4 quarterbacks; he is second in yards and Carter already has more yards than Midd-West quarterbacks combined for last season. Three Midd-West receivers have more than 100 yards and D'Angelo Drumheller caught 10 passes for 119 yards against Warrior Run. Mason Fultz had four receptions for 127 yards and two scores against CMVT. Midd-West did run the ball effectively against CMVT with Noah Kratzer going for 120 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. He ran for 72 yards and a score in last year's 40-20 loss at Loyalsock.
Midd-West player to watch--Jiovaunni Drumehller: The sophomore is a big-play threat offensively and leads Midd-West in tackles, averaging 5.3 per game. Drumheller caught a 69-yard touchdown against CMVT and also ran for a score in that game.
Outlook: Midd-West is doing its best to utilize its athletes and speed and is a team making nice strides since a lot of the playmakers are underclassmen. Still, Loyalsock has the advantage up front and should have an enjoyable bus ride home tonight.
