Lycoming hopes to win home opener and move to 2-0

Lycoming opened the season last week on the road and defeated The College of New Jersey, 17-7. Now Lycoming hopes to make it a 2-0 start as the Warriors are at David Person Field at Girardi Stadium for its first home game of the year.
Lycoming hosts Montclair State this afternoon at 1 p.m.
The Warriors' defense played well last week, limiting TCNJ to just one touchdown, coming on a Sam Dech 4-yard run early in the second quarter.
Lycoming's defense limited TCNJ to 83 total rushing yards and just 44 total passing yards. The defense also forced an interception and saw Nasir Shakur and Khalil Johnson record sacks.
Johnson led Lycoming with nine total tackles last week while JayVon Story had eight, Louie Shank had seven and Yahseam Stokes and Evan Woodward both had five. The Warriors also recorded 10 tackles for loss as Stokes had a team-high two while Johnson and Story each had 1 1/2.
The Warriors' offense did well in the win too. Joe Lyons went 19 for 28 for 155 yards and a touchdown, although he did throw three interceptions. That's something Lyons no doubt wants to improve on this week and not turn the ball over.
Terrence Oliver had 115 rushing yards on 28 carries last week, averaging 4.1 per carry while teamamte Spencer Ferguson had nine carries for 38 yards with a 4.2 yard per carry average.
Loyalsock graduate Brendan Clark had six receptions for 71 yards as Lyons threw to seven receivers, spreading around the ball offensively to different targets.
Hughesville graduate Aiden Barlett had an interception and fumbler recovery for Lycoming last week.
Montclair State heads to Lycoming with a 0-1 record after suffering a 41-24 loss in its opener to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Montclair State fell behind 21-0 after the first quarter and found itself in a hole too deep to claw back out of .
Luke Henrich saw some success passing as he finished the day going 17 for 29 for 173 yards, although he had two interceptions and was sacked three times.
Montclair State's ground game sputtered as Diante Wilson had just 77 rushing yards on 14 carries, although he did average 5.5 per carry and found the endzone twice as the Red Hawks had 75 rushing yards as a team.
Jahmir Beal and WIlliam Canavan did well defensively last week for Montclair State, accounting for 15 and 10 tackles, respectively. Beal also had an interception. Bi'Shay Sanders, Jasmal Williams, Jaiden Hernandez, Shaun Smith II and Jontae Walters each had seven tackles.
