Power rankings: Shore, WAHS, Montgomery round out the area’s top 3

By Chris Masse 4 min read

1. Jersey Shore (1-0): Quarterback Nolen Pauling went over 3,000 career totals in the first game of his junior season last Friday. The dual-threat signal caller also topped 2,000 passing yards and has piled up 3,146 total yards with 37 touchdowns.

2. Williamsport (1-0): Speaking of excellent dual-threats, Williamsport quarterback Tevin Williams also went over the 3,000 total yards make in the opening game of his junior year. Is there an echo in here? Williams went over 2,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing and has generated 3,335 yards with 37 touchdowns.

3. Montgomery (1-0): Montgomery has the area’s longest current active regular season winning streak. The Red Raiders have won nine straight games and are unbeaten at home since 2024.

4. Montoursville (1-0): Nobody had won Troy’s Alparon Park since 2023. That was until the Warriors came to town and became just the second team in three seasons to win a regular season game against Troy, period.

5. Warrior Run (1-0): David Stiner sure has liked playing games at Muncy the past two seasons. In consecutive season openers there, Stiner has made six tackles for loss and collected 2 1/2 sacks.

6. Loyalsock (1-0): The last Loyalsock freshman to start at quarterback in a season opener before Dyson Dupont did so last Friday? Connor Watkins. Obviously, nobody is comparing Dupont to one of most prolific passers in District 4 history, but it still says a lot about the confidence Loyalsock coaches have in him.

7. South Williamsport (1-0): Running back Cade Lusk reached 2,000 career yards in the opening game of his junior season last week. Fellow junior Eli White topped 1,100. Together, the duo has 3,183 yards and 45 touchdowns. And sophomore Garrett Lorson has over 500 yards. Talk about a three-headed monster.

8. Lewisburg (0-1): Jaylen Walker became just the second receiver in program history to catch 20 career touchdowns with his big performance against Danville. Walker is just one behind Dylan Farronato (21) for the program record and has 87 catches for 1,638 yards.

9. Muncy (0-1): Having a shot at beating Warrior Run in the closing minute was a really encouraging sign. The bonus for Muncy is how so many players making an impact that game are underclassmen.

10. Wellsboro (0-1): After Northwest left it scrambling when it backed out of an originally scheduled season opener, Wellsboro picked up Lakeland a few days before the season started. The result was not what Wellsboro wanted, but playing a quality team could provide a nice springboard going forward.

11. Hughesville (0-1): The Spartan defense forced Montgomery into negative yards on three of its first four plays last week and did not allow more than three yards in the first six. Prolong that for four quarters and Hughesville has the ingredients to be one of the area’s premier defenses.

12. Milton (0-1): Watch out for Brady Locke. The sophomore linebacker appears to have a bright future and made six tackles in his first start last Friday. He also broke up a pass and ran for 24 yards.

13. Canton (1-0): Sophomore quarterback Owen Moore has topped 150 yards and thrown a touchdown pass in four straight games going back to last season.

14. Central Mountain (0-1): There is a lot to be excited about following the season opener. Central Mountain had its chances and building blocks are in place. It’s just a matter of putting them all together now.

15. Cowanesque Valley (0-1): Unfortunately, injuries have already taken quite a negative toll. Not having Kegan Lane on the field was hard enough, but losing fellow four-year starter Dave Hess really put CV in dire straits last week. They combined for over 2,000 yards of offense last year.

16. North Penn-Mansfield (0-1): Things will get better, but this is likely a building year in Blossburg. There are a lot of young players receiving quality time and the younger levels are strong, so don’t sleep on the Panthers in the coming years.

17. Bucktail (0-1): Returning coach Bruce Ransom led Bucktail to some of its best seasons the two previous seasons and has excitement brewing. With its largest roster in a while, look for Bucktail to move up these rankings as the season continues.
