Towanda notes: Towanda (2-1) mirrors Muncy in blowing out two teams it was a heavy favorite against and playing a double-digit win team from last year tough in its lone loss. Towanda started 2-0 before losing to three-time defending NTL-I champion Troy, 23-7 last week. The Black Knights moved the ball well at times but were doomed by six turnovers. Jazick Brown is third among District 4 rushers with 452 yards and six touchdowns. He and fullback Gage Evans both top 10 yards per carry. Quarterback Reese Sluyter threw for 118 yards against Troy and Evans and Brown caught six of his completions for 81 yards. Curtis Maynard and Shane Magahmez are receivers to keep an eye on as well. Brown has two sacks and Gabe Wolf two interceptions. Magahmez leads the team in tackles, averaging 6.7 per game. Towanda has forced at least two turnovers in every game and five in the opener against Sayre. Brayden Spencer has a big leg and showed it, drilling a district-best 48-yard field goal two weeks ago against North Penn-Mansfield.
Towanda player to watch--Kolton McPeak: A talented linebacker, McPeak leads the team with five tackles for loss. He also has a sack, interception and blocked punt recovery for a touchdown. McPeak made 73 tackles a year ago, including 10 for loss. He also forced three fumbles and has recovered two this season.
Muncy PPG--36.0, PPA--4.7; YPG--383.3,YPA--178
Muncy notes: After giving undefeated Warrior Run all it could handle in its opener, Muncy has produced consecutive shutouts against Wyalusing and Sayre. Now, the Indians are starting a tough stretch of games against Towanda, Montgomery and South Williamsport. Muncy features a nice blend of experienced senior leaders with exciting young players making quality impacts. Quarterbacks Noah Weikle and Noah Walters both have gone over 300 yards passing and Layken Harris ran for three touchdowns a week ago at Sayre. Senior receiver Nate Rogers has gone over 100 yards with a touchdown in all three games, while Cullen Reed has caught scores in consecutive contests. Drew Ryder and Kynton Fish also have caught touchdowns. Linebackers Finn and Jaxson Thomas both are having strong seasons, helping fuel a defense which has allowed just 14 points. Six players have interceptions, including Rogers who has two. Four-year starting lineman Nixon Lamper has a team-high four tackles for loss and also helps anchor an offensive line which helped Muncy gain 500 yards last Friday. Drew Ryder intercepted a pass and caught a touchdown last week and Jermain Morgan produced a pick, along with a 41-yard touchdown run.
Muncy player to watch--Liam Driscoll: The senior lineman has made nice strides this season and is averaging 5.7 tackles per game. Driscoll has made nine solo tackles up front and has six tackles for loss the past two seasons. He has helped harass quarterbacks into errant throws as well, generating four hurries.
Outlook: These teams look pretty evenly matched and each has a promising foundation in place. Expect this to be a one or two score game the whole way, with it a coin flip who prevails.
