Milton at Warrior Run
Milton (3-6) needs a win tonight to possibly reach the District 4 Class AAAA playoffs as the fourth and final team. Projections show that a victory and a Selinsgrove win still might leave Milton out are unofficial, so the Black Panthers are trying to control what they can control. The bottom line is this is a rivalry game and Milton is loaded with underclassmen, so building momentum going forward is big.
Warrior Run will compete in the District 4 Class AAA playoffs and will be seeded anywhere from Nos. 5-7, depending on how tonight's results go. The Defenders started 3-0 but have, arguably, been hit harder by injuries than any district team since then.
Milton freshman quarterback Paxton Humphrey did not become the team's starter until Week 6, but is just two yards from reaching 1,000. He has topped 200 yards in three straight starts and has a bevy of talented receivers at his disposal, including former quarterback Kamryn Wilson who has caught 22 passes for 351 yards and four touchdowns since the switch. Fellow sophomore Ja'Cori Brown is 10th among area receivers in catches and hauled in six passes for 82 yards and a score last week against Lewisburg.
Warrior Run has continued competing hard despite its injuries and nearly won games against Loyalsock and Hughesville, the latter game being decided in overtime. Despite missing 3 ½ games, quarterback Logan Stevenson has gone over 1,000 yards in his first year starting and has produced 570 yards and six touchdowns since returning two weeks ago. Bryson Weigel has enjoyed a breakout season and helped compensate for the loss of leading receiver Liam Moore last week, catching a long touchdown for a second straight game. Chase Wirnsberger caught three passes for 101 yards and a touchdown at Shikellamy and Carter Little ran for 81 yards a week after making 20 tackles at Hughesville.
Bucktail at CMVT
Bucktail earned its first win since 2023 two weeks ago and, Saturday, will try securing its first road victory since that season. The Bucks (1-6) have made some nice strides this season, highlighting that development by beating Coudersport, 20-13 two weeks after having lost to it by 27.
Sophomore quarterback Corbin Pentz has a shot at going over 1,000 total yards for a second straight year and junior Teagan Stone went over 1,000 career yards last week. Steven Heiser and Levi Stevenson both have 100-yard rushing games and Patrick Tarantella leads the team in tackles, while also running well.
CMVT is trying for its first on the field win this year, earning a forfeit victory after Jenkintown canceled its season early this year. Liam Patraw and Cody Zimmerman both topped 50 yards rushing in the team's last game two weeks ago at New Hope-Solebury and Blake Sponenberg caught five passes for 122 yards and a touchdown in last year's thrilling 36-34 win at Bucktail. Pentz threw for 210 yards and there touchdowns in that contest.
Canton at Troy
Canton looks to be in strong position to host a District 4 Class A quarterfinal against Northwest next weekend, regardless of tonight's Old Shoe result. Canton enters tonight fourth in the standings and Northwest is playing at undefeated Bloomsburg, so it would take a major upset to change the order there.
The Warriors (4-5) feature several underclassmen starting and opened the season 4-2, doubling last year's win total in the process. They played without 1,000-yard quarterback Owen Moore a week ago at Towanda with freshman Brooks Wesneski throwing for 102 yards and a touchdown. Monte Whitehead had a big game, catching five passes for 103 yards and a score.
Marcus Solomon and Bailey Gardner lead Canton in tackles; also combining for 13 sacks. Whitehead, Moore, Jack Whitehead and Aaden Dowling all have two interceptions.
Troy (8-1) has won eight straight games since a season-opening loss against Montoursville and captured a fourth straight NTL-I championship. Quarterback Spencer Martin needs 89 yards to reach 1,000 and Trey Teribury has been a big-play receiver, averaging 20.9 yards per catch with seven touchdowns. The rushing attack is balanced with eight players running for at least 108 yards.
Logunn Heasley and Josiah Pesesky each have four interceptions, Heasley taking two for touchdowns. They also have combined for three kick return touchdowns.
N.P.-Mansfield
at Wellsboro
Unless Cowanesque Valley upset Montgomery Thursday night in a game which ended after deadline, Wellsboro is playoff-bound, regardless of tonight's result. The Hornets (3-6) likely will be the No. 8 seed and play at No. 1 Mount Carmel.
Wellsboro won consecutive games before running into South Williamsport last week and hurting itself with four first-half turnovers. The Hornets allowed just 20 points during its win streak and shut down a potent Towanda offense. Junior quarterback Griffin Morral missed most of three games with an injury but reached three milestones at South, going over 3,000 career passing yards, 1,000 rushing yards and 4,000 total yards.
Max Mascho ran well in the Weeks 7 and 8 wins, while Kody Enck and Ethan Keane caught touchdowns. Christian Main has two interceptions and Mascho is second on the team in tackles.
North Penn-Mansfield (0-9) is hoping it can end the season on a high. Most of its players will be back next season, so this has been a building season. Junior linebacker Bohdi Nickerson needs seven tackles tonight to reach 100 for the season. Freshman Bridger Lehman is another exciting underclassmen and has 77 tackles.
Sophomore quarterback Peyton Greene needs 87 yards to reach 1,000 total yards in his first year starting. Junior Jeremiah Lawrence had a big game against NTL-I champion Troy, running for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
