Bucknell heads to Holy Cross hoping to snap a four-game losing skid

By From staff reports 2 min read

Bucknell suffered its fourth consecutive loss last week to drop to 1-6 this season. The Bison fell at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium last week in a 20-7 loss.

Now Bucknell looks to try to snap that skid as the Bison head to Holy Cross for a 1 p.m. kickoff this afternoon in Patriot League action.

Against Lafayette last Saturday, Bucknell went into the half down just 10-7, but the Bison weren't able to put any points on the board in the second half as Lafayette held on to win and move to 1-2 in Patriot League play and 2-4 overall.

The Bison struggled offensively. Christopher Dietrich went 8 for 15 for just 104 yards and threw two touchdowns and Emmett Dowling went 5 for 15 for 35 yards and had a touchdown pass. On the ground, Michael Cadden did find some success, carrying it 15 times for 62 yards, averaging 4.1 per carry.

Bucknell struggled to contain Lafayette's ground game as the Panthers' Jakyre Henley had 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Eddie Jordan threw for 158 yards but didn't find the end zone.

Holy Cross is 2-5 after suffering a 30-7 loss last week against No. 17-ranked Harvard on the road. It snapped a two-game win streak against Lafayette (38-30) and William & Mary (41-14).

The Crusaders' David Lynch has 1,398 passing yards this season with 10 touchdown passes. Joseph Williams has 98 rushes for 500 yards and three touchdowns, Datrell Jones has 35 for 163 and a touchdown and Jake Croce has 45 for 140 and a score.

That trio also all average at least 3.0 yards per carry with Williams averaging 5.1, Jones averaging 4.7 and Croce averaging 3.1.

That gives the Crusaders a nice backfield that can move the chains and keep drives sustained.

Against No. 17-ranked Harvard, Holy Cross was held to 311 yards of offense while Harvard accumulated 461.
