The first day of the individual District 4 golf championships concluded with numerous area golfers having success.
The cut-off for scores to qualify for the second and final day of competition was 98 for Class AA girls, 88 for Class AA boys and 86 for Class AAA boys.
In Class AA competition, Athens' Eli Hicks leads the field with a 1-over par 73. Lewisburg's Bryce Bossum is in second with a 2-over 74, Loyalsock's Garrett Rankinen was 3-over (75) and Warrior Run's Denallen Beachel had a 4-over 76.
Loyalsock's Bryson Rankinen tied for sixth with East Juniata's Camden Feltman with a 6-over 78. Tying for eighth included Jacson Largey of Wellsboro and Cowanesque Valley's Danny Smith, both of whom had 8-over 80s.
Just five golfers made the cut in Class AAA competition as Mason Heydrich of Jersey Shore led the field with an par 72. Milton's Cole Blackmon tied Midd-West's River Knepp with a 4-over 76. Williamsport's Waylon Edler shot an 8-ver 80 and Midd-West's Brady Gunkle shot a 14-over 86.
In Class AA girls competition, Jersey Shore's Kylie Schall and Loyalsock's Myla Rankinen both tied for first after the first day of competition with a 9-over 81. Loyalsock's Mercedes Allison shot a 19-over 91 for fourth.
The competition resumes at Williamsport Country Club on Saturday morning. The Class AA girls tee off at 8:30 a.m, followed by the Class AAA boys competition and then Class AA boys.
Earlier this month at the District 4 team championships, South Williamsport's Logan McGinn shot an outstanding 67 to lead the field of more than 150 golfers thanks to six birdies and 11 pars. Bryce Bussom of Lewisburg had a 70 for second. Towanda won the team title with a 302.
The team tournament in late September was held at White Deer Golf Course.
