Once competition has begun in any sanctioned league or tournament, the ball cannot be altered by the use of an abrasive, cannot be cleaned with any liquid substance or cleaning agent and/or cannot have any foreign material on it including, but not limited to, powder, rosin, marker or paint.

All balls so altered or cleaned must be removed from the competition. All of these prohibitions are covered by Rule 18 of the USBC Playing Rules, which also includes a list of answers to commonly asked questions relative to this issue.

Hope to see you on the lanes.
