Lycoming snapped a three-game losing skid last Saturday at home by trouncing Catholic and the Warriors hope that momentum carries into this week.
After beating Catholic, 49-25, the Warriors travel to Wilkes for today's game at 1 p.m.
Last week, Lycoming scored 28 points in the second quarter to pull away and led 35-17 at halftime. Joe Lyons went 11 for 16, throwing just five incompletions all afternoon as he threw for 225 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. On the ground, Terrence Oliver returned to the lineup and had a fantastic performance. The Warrior carried it 13 times for 123 yards and found a touchdown, averaging an impressive 9.5 yards per carry.
Jersey Shore graduate Elijah Jordan had 10 carries for 56 yards and also had a rushing touchdown. Jared Zimmerman had six receptions for a team-high 146 yards and three touchdowns while Isaiah Robinson reeled in three catches for 37 yards.
Defensively, Lycoming did well limiting Catholic, as it had just 60 yards as a team rushing although Charles Gublin did find some success passing for 271 yards. Lycoming's defense recorded three sacks and two interceptions, constantly putting pressure on Gulbin.
Daniel Atsou had eight tackles, Louie Shank had seven and Yahseam Stokes, Khalil Johnson, Muncy graduate Stiles Eyer and Ryder Bowen had five each.JayVon Story and Saveion Beckett both had a sack while Stokes and Trinity Hill-Caleb combined on a sack. Hughesville graduate Aiden Barlett had an interception and broke up a pass and Evan Woodward also had a pick.
Wilkes is 2-2 and earned a 21-2 win last week at Juniata to snap a two-game skid. Against Juniata, Wilkes scored 19 points in the first half to gain momentum early. Trey Dogmantis went 20 for 29 for 258 yards and two touchdowns and as a team, Wilkes ran it for 142 yards, 51 coming from Nigel Linton and 46 from Dogmantis.
Wilkes will look to try to establish a run game and Dogmantis will try to have more success in the air. But the Warriors defense, anchored by Barlett, will look to force turnovers and pressure Dogmantis throughout the game.
Lycoming beat Wilkes last year, 31-21. It was the first time the Warriors beat Wilkes since 2021.
