Lyco’s Johnson named Defensive Athlete of the Week

By From staff reports 2 min read

After leading a dominant defensive effort from the Lycoming College football team, junior linebacker Khalil Johnson was named Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. This is the second straight week that the Warriors have had a player earn a conference weekly honor.

In a 48-7 rout of Western Connecticut State, Johnson matched his season-high with nine tackles and added 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and a fumble that he forced, recovered, and took to the house for a 35-yard touchdown. He led a swarming defensive unit that allowed just 177 total yards, netted eight sacks, and forced four turnovers in moving to 4-0 in Landmark Conference action.

On the season, Johnson has netted 48 total tackles, is tied for second in the Landmark with 4.5 sacks and tied for fifth in the league with 8.0 tackles for loss. He’s also forced three fumbles, tied for second in the league, and recovered two of them, while also nabbing an interception.

An Honorable Mention All-Landmark selection a year ago, Johnson was named Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week for the third time in his career, earning weekly nods after each of the final two regular-season contests for the Warriors in 2025.

He is also the third Warrior to earn Athlete of the Week accolades this season, joining junior defensive back Aiden Barlett, a Hughesville graduate, on Sept. 14 and sophomore Vasco Granitto on Oct. 19, both of whom took home Specialist of the Week honors.

The Warriors will finish their home schedule against Susquehanna this weekend in a battle of the top two teams in the Landmark Conference. The contest will kick off at 1 p.m. from David Person Field at Girardi Stadium on Saturday.
