Shikellamy has nearly 500 yards of offense in 42-10 win against Loyalsock

It’s been nearly the same story as the previous three Loyalsock losses. A young Lancers team struggles to get off the field against an older, more experienced opponent.

Shikellamy had drives of 10 and 14 plays to open the game, and rolled up nearly 500 yards of offense in a 42-10 win over the Lancers on Friday night in a Heartland Athletic Conference-crossover game.

Loyalsock got off to a good start, taking the opening kickoff to the Shikellamy 25, helped by a 25-yard run by quarterback Dyson Dupont, and a 22-yard run up the middle by senior Cayden Sones (23 carries, 93 yards). However, the Braves got pressure on a fourth-and-four, and forced an incompletion.

The Braves, 7-1 for the first time since 1981, then drove 74 yards in 11 plays, capped by a Thomas Pollock 5-yard pass to Brady Kurtz for a 7-0 with 3:22 left in the first quarter..

Loyalsock (4-4) sustained its strong offensive start on the next drive, going on a 11-play, 83-yard scoring drive, that consumed 5:44 off the clock. Loyalsock was helped by holding call on the Shikellamy defense when Dupont was sacked for an 11-yard loss on second-and-10 from the Shik 30. Two plays later, the freshman quarterback found sophomore Carter Brown for a 17-yard touchdown, and Ethan Boyer’s PAT tied the game at 7-7 with 9:32 left in the first half.

Shikellamy then took control of the game. After a holding call on the kickoff forced the Braves to start from their own 10, Shikellamy needed 14 plays to cover 90 yards. Tristian Smith scored on a 7-yard TD run with 4:14 left in the first half for a 14-7 lead.

The Lancers picked up a first down on its next possession, but was forced to punt, and Shikellamy got the ball back with 1:17 left, and needed just three plays to make it 21-7 on Bobby Felmy’s 25-yard TD pass to Pollock.

The Braves would scored on the opening drive of the second half when Felmy found Maddox Hoover for a 12-yard TD for a 28-7 lead. The Lancers opening drive of the second half stalled after Dupont’s 45-yard run to the Shikellamy 23, but a sack and an incomplete pass ended the drive without points.

Loyalsock would forced a three-and-out helped by a Shikellamy penalty, and a short punt set up the Lancers in Braves territory. The drive would stall at the 10, and Boyer kicked a 30-yard field goal to cut the lead to 28-10, but that would be the Lancers last offensive gasp.

Pollock finished with 119 yards on nine carries would run 13 yards for touchdown, then throw an 85-yard TD pass to Felmy for the final margin of victory.
