Bucknell's football team is still looking to snap a losing streak after suffering its sixth consecutive loss this past weekend. But the Bison have some confidence after losing by just one to No. 19-ranked Lehigh.
Bucknell has a home game today at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium against Fordham in a Patriot League battle at 1 p.m.
The Bison came up just shy against Lehigh, falling 31-30. Lehigh scored when Williamsport graduate Connor Poole kicked a 33-yard field goal with 1:47 left for a 31-24 lead. The Bison put together a 12-play, 75-yard drive to score with just two seconds left to make it a 31-30 deficit. Bucknell went for two, but the pass didn't connect and Bucknell was denied a huge upset.
Emmett Dowling had success passing as he went 33 for 52 for 318 yards and a touchdown as the Bison weren't afraid to air it out. Nine players caught at least one pass as Sam Milligan led Bucknell with nine receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown, Owen Garwood had seven for 64 and Jack Sullivan caught six passes for 32 yards. JJ Gomez also had four catches for 45 yards.
Bucknell did well limiting Lehigh's passing game as Lehigh had 79 combined in the air, but Luke Yoder did damage on the ground with 31 carries for 183 yards and two touchdowns while Aidan Mayfield had six carries for 27 yards and also had a rushing touchdown.
Fordham enters today's matchup 2-7. Fordham beat ranked Richmond, 20-14, three weeks ago before dropping back-to-back contests with Villanov (38-17) and Lafayette (31-17).
Fordham has a trio of rushers with at least 150 yards in Jamell James (537 yards, six touchdowns), Yohan-Li Louis (530 yards, two touchdowns) and Gunnar Smith (159 yards, four touchdowns). Smith is a mobile quarterback with 1,276 passing yards and six touchdowns, although he has 11 interceptions and Bucknell's secondary will be looking to increase to that number. Ricky Gonzalez II leads Fordham with 416 receiving yards while Nodin Tracy has 249 and KJ Reed has 200.
Defensively, Fordham is led by Andrew Osmun and Lorenzo Riddick, both of whom have 3 1/2 sacks. Jakub Mwangelwa has 2 1/2 sacks, Tyler Davis has 2 and Tiumalu Afalava, Colby Spencer and Cole Nelson each have 1 1/2 sacks. Osmun has an impressive 92 total tackles while Drew Minich has 46.
