A trio of players scored in double figures for the Lycoming College women's basketball team, which fell 65-51 in a non-conference matchup to Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday at Lamade Gymnasium.
Lycoming (1-1) led 14-13 after the opening quarter, but Franklin & Marshall (1-0) took control in the second period to take a 32-25 lead into halftime before the Diplomats gradually grew the lead in the second half.
The Warriors fell behind by four early on but scored the final five points of the quarter, capped off by a layup from senior Alyssa Reisinger to give Lycoming the one-point edge after the first 10 minutes.
After halftime, F&M pushed the lead to 11, but the Warriors answered with a 5-0 spurt in the middle of the quarter that closed the gap to within 40-35 following an old-fashioned three-point play from junior Jocelyn McCracken, a Jersey Shore graduate, with 4:51 left in the quarter. After the Diplomats took a 10-point lead into the fourth, the Warriors twice closed the gap back to single digits early in the final period.
McCracken led the Warriors with 15 points, along with three rebounds and a block. Senior Ann-Marie McMurtrie chipped in 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Reisinger poured in 11 points and snagged a trio of rebounds. Junior Summer Emlet added a pair of 3-point makes among an eight-point, four-board effort.
Franklin & Marshall had four double-digit scorers, led by 15 points from Fiona Reckner and 14 points and eight rebounds from Gia Sioutis.
The Warriors will return to action on Friday with their first road trip of the year for a non-conference matchup at Penn State-Berks. Tip-off from Reading is scheduled for 6 p.m.
