Williamsport QB Tevin Williams captures Sun-Gazette area passer rating crown

By Chris Masse 2 min read

Williamsport quarterback Tevin Williams missed four games earlier this season, but started and finished strong, running away with the Sun-Gazette area passer rating title. The junior signal caller built on a breakout sophomore campaign, besting the second-place finisher, Lewisburg’s Xavier Carter by a 28.6 margin.

Williams’s 138.5 rating is the highest accumulated by an area quarterback this decade. He has led Williamsport to a 5-1 mark in games he’s played and thrown for 1,159 yards and 13 touchdowns in six contests. Williams also has run for 777 yards. Combining his yards and touchdowns, Williams, who has thrown just two interceptions in 105 attempts, has generated 1,936 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The Millionaires continue their season when they host West Scranton Friday in the District 2-4 Class AAAAAA semifinals.

Carter also missed time this year but was spectacular after returning in Week 5. The senior Lewisburg quarterback has thrown for 1,448 yards in seven games. He also finished second among area passers with 24 touchdowns, throwing at least three in five straight games at one point.

Highlighting Williamsport’s depth, Zion Hughes finished third in passer rating at 101.8 after excelling when Williams was sidelined and throwing for 833 yards and seven touchdowns. Montoursville’s Elijah Eck was fourth at 97.8 and is second among area passers in yards (1,915).

Jersey Shore’s Nolen Pauling has a district-high 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns and is fifth in area rating at 97.1. Next in line are Warrior Run’s Logan Stevenson (93.1), Loyalsock’s Dyson Dupont (91.5), Milton’s Paxton Humphrey (87.2), Bucktail’s Corbin Pentz 85.8 and Muncy’s Noah Weikle (82.1). Stevenson (1,390) and Humphrey (1,204) are other quarterbacks who topped 1,000 yards despite missing 4 ½ games and not becoming the starter until Week 6, respectively.
