36 overdoses treated in 24 hours

UPMC Susquehanna’s Emergency department and Pre-hospital Services teams have at this time treated 36 patients with heroin overdoses over the last 24 hours, according to a statement released this afternoon by the health system.

It states:

“We believe there is a potentially lethal version of this drug in the region.

“If you have concerns that you have used this drug or are experiencing overdose symptoms please go immediately to your local Emergency department or call 911.”

Additionally, police and the coroner’s office responded to an apartment late this morning in the 700 block of West Fourth Street for a reported drug overdose.

The body was removed and the death is being investigated by a city police detective. No official cause of the death has been determined.
