A Loyalsock Township woman was attacked Tuesday afternoon in her driveway by a grey fox that bit her in the right foot and ankle, according to Jon Wyant, a state game warden at the state Game Commission office in Antes Fort.
Hearing the noise and commotion caused by the attack, the woman's husband bolted from the house and "destroyed the animal by blunt-force trauma" with some sort of hammer, Wyant said.
The attacked occurred in the area of 1000 block of Northway Road Extension about 1 p.m., Wyant said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to UPMC Williamsport, where she was treated for puncture wounds and scratches to her foot and ankle, Wyant said, adding the woman likely was given "a post-exposure vaccine."
After the husband called the game commission from the hospital, Wyant went to the couple's home and retrieved the dead fox, which was packed and taken by a courier to a state Department of Health lab, where it will be tested for rabies and other diseases.
