WILLIAMSPORT – City and Old Lycoming Township firefighters worked for nearly 30 minutes to free the operator of a tanker truck that overturned on an off-ramp just before 9 a m. Saturday.
The crash occurred on the Route 15 North off-ramp of Route 220. The ramp is between the Reach Road and Maynard Street interchanges.
It was believed that the driver lost control of the rig, which reportedly went down an embankment.
Reports from the scene indicated the tanker was loaded with several hundred gallons of fracking water that was leaking into the ground.
A representative from the state Department Environmental Protection was dispatched to the scene.
The state Department of Transportation has closed the ramp and is detouring traffic to alternate routes, a PennDOT spokeswoman told the SG just before 10 a.m.
The man driving the truck was loaded into an ambulance and taken to UPMC Williamsport. There was no information about the extent of his injuries or his medical condition.
