The third meeting of the City of Williamsport to discuss the first installment of $12.7 million in American Rescue Plan funds Monday night identified millions of dollars in potential projects.
Among those discussed in the first hour of the remote meeting were residential and commercial property redevelopment, blight remediation, levee repair and water line and stormwater improvements.
The total city allocation of Rescue funds is nearly $25.5 million. Allocation must be done in 2024 and spending in 2026, officials said.
The funds are meant to help communities bounce back from negative economic impacts caused by COVID-19. Mayor Derek Slaughter presented Council with a draft list of possible priorities. The funds cannot be used to pay debt, cover pensions or reconstruct streets. City consulting firms Delta Development and Keller Partners along with city solicitors reviewed the concepts in Slaughter’s draft and said they are eligible projects for Rescue fund use.
