Montgomery woman charged in death of her 3-month-old son

MONTGOMERY – A mother has been locked up on no bail on charges she allegedly caused the death of her 3-month baby son, according to state police.
Tallia G. Charlebois, 27, of 25 S. Main St., apartment 3, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
She was arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday just hours after her baby son arrived at UPMC Williamsport in cardiac arrest.
The baby was pronounced dead about 2:45 p.m., Jerold Ross, the county’s chief deputy coroner, said late Thursday morning.
The baby was brought to the hospital from Charlebois’s apartment, where the infant was found in cardiac arrest at 1:30 p.m.
Ross said the baby, whose name was not released, never regained consciousness.
Although at autopsy on the infant was done this morning, the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, Ross said.
Investigators will be awaiting the results of toxicology and other tests, Ross said.
Several hours before the infant was found to be in arrest, state police were at Charlebois’ apartment to check on the baby’s welfare.
Police, arriving at the apartment at about 5:30 a m., were told by a friend of Charlebois, that she saw Charlebois “strike the baby’s head off a changing table, causing a red mark on the infant’s head,” according to an affidavit.
Solomon also told the troopers she saw “glassine bags inside a cardboard box” in the apartment, the affidavit stated.
It was reported to police that Charlebois “was believed to be on some type of drug,” the affidavit stated.
However troopers at the scene were “ensured the baby was awake, alert and was not in need of medical attention,” the affidavit stated.
Furthermore, “when the troopers left, the mother did not appear to be incapable of caring for the baby,” the affidavit stated.
