Lewisburg juniors force winner-take-all Section 3 title game with win over Montoursville

After Montoursville won the first game on Saturday in a slugfest, by the score of 15-8, Sunday's game proved to be anything but. It was Lewisburg's Landynn Bieber versus Montoursville's James Williams on the mound, and Lewisburg won the contest, 2-1, as all the runs scored on the day were unearned.
Bieber had the upper hand giving up one run on four hits, walking one, hitting one and striking out nine.
Williams, gave up two runs on two hits, walking five, hitting one and striking out five.
It was Bieber's outfield duo of Lincoln Ayers and Jackson Wurtz that made outstanding catches all game long. It was his infield of Jay Houseknecht, Cole Weaver, Brent Crawford and Branson Fogleman that made play after play.
The Montoursville defense recorded two double-plays (3-6-3, 4-6-3) and Houseknecht alone counted for ten outs as he had 5 putouts and 5 assists.
Montoursville stuck first, in the bottom of the second inning. After two outs, Cole Weaver reached first on Lewisburg's only error. Brent Crawford then doubled and Aiden Jackson hit an RBI single.
Lewisburg did not score until the sixth inning; Gage Mareska walked, Williams induced a fly and then Parker Hamilton walked. That was Williams maxium pitch count of 95 and Austin Davidson came on in relief, walking Lincoln Ayers. Then Davidson got the next batter to pop up, but then Montoursville had its only error mallowing Mareska to tie the game. Two pitches later, a pass ball sealed Montoursville's fate.
Montoursville and Lewisburg will square off again on Monday night at 5:30 p.m., playing for the Section 3 championship and a right to go to the State tournament next week in Athens.
