An undetermined amount of fracking water spilled out of Eureka Resources about 9:10 a.m. Thursday, prompting city firefighters and police to respond to the company at 419 Second St.

The water came from a valve on a tank inside the facility, where oil, chemicals and other substances are removed from the fracking water, city Fire Chief Sam Aungst explained.

There was no evidence of a break in the valve or tank, he said, adding that how the water came out of the valve remains under investigation.

Ambulances were dispatched to the hazardous materials incident because someone called and reported two employees were possibly unresponsive,

Aungst said. “That was false. No one became ill here,” he said outside the water treatment plant.

Employees moved quickly to contain the fracking water by putting in place temporarily booms. The spilled water was then vacuumed into a tanker truck, Aungst said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
