Local roundup: South softball collects 15 hits in win over Wyalusing

South Williamsport continued mashing the ball in its second game Saturday, pounding out 15 hits and winning, 14-1 in five innings at Wyalusing. Nine players produced hits and the Mounties (2-0) scored in all but one inning, giving them 40 runs and 35 hits in their first two games.
Abby Lorson’s three-run home run capped the scoring binge and Gianna Goodman and Sage Lorson both went 3 for 3, while Mikaiya Hills was 2 for 2. Goodman hit two triples and a double and Hills had both a triple and double. Winning pitcher Alizabeth Schuler and Emma McLaughlin collected two hits each and Schuler struck out nine in four innings in the circle.
Mackenzie Heyler threw a three-hit shutout and Maura Woland went 2 for 3 with an RBI as Warrior Run blanked Central Columbia, 7-0. Heyler produced her second shutout this season as the Defenders improved to 2-2.
McKenna Furman hit a two-run double for Warrior Run and Meghan Rovenolt added a triple and two runs.
• Cody Hermanson and Alex Davis had big offensive games and Cooper Shaw threw 5 1/3 strong innings as North Penn-Mansfield defeated defending District 4 Class AA champion Wyalusing, 9-3. Hermanson went 3 for 4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs.
Davis was 3 for 4 with two doubles before closing the game down on the mound with 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Shaw improved to 2-0, scattering four hits in 5 1/3 innings and both Karson Dominick and Riley Oakes hit doubles.
• Riley McClellan broke the Lock Haven softball team's career stolen base record and the Bald Eagles picked up a pair of victories over Shepherd in a PSAC East doubleheader on the road.
With the sweep, Lock Haven improves to 8-16 overall and 4-8 in the PSAC East. Shepherd falls to 15-15 overall and 5-7 in conference.
Lock Haven won the first game, 7-0 in nine innings, and 2-1 in the second game.
With her eighth stolen base of the season and 89th in her career, McClellan broke the Bald Eagles' career stolen base record, set by Lynn Spiezio in 2005.
McClellen, who entered the afternoon with five swiped bags on the season, stole four bases during the doubleheader to secure the milestone.
Lock Haven's offense has been on a tear over the last four games add belted out 11 hits in game one after racking up 28 yesterday.
Montgomery graduate Faith Persing (6-6) picked up both victories on the mound in relief.
Mansfield dropped a doubleheader to Kutztown in two five-innings games as Kutztown posted two shutouts, 8-0 and 9-0.
In the first game, Kutztown struck first in the top of the third inning, smacking a two-run triple to take the first lead at 2-0. Another RBI single posted the host's quick trio of runs on the scoreboard.
In game two, Kutztown got right back to work in the first inning, scoring the first run off a wild pitch. The third inning contributed to two more runs for the Golden Bears. With an RBI double and an RBI single, the host controlled with a 3-0 lead.
Five more runs piled on for the Golden Bears to complete the sweep in the fourth inning, including a three-run home run to finish up game two, 9-0.
• Sophomore Noah Miller pitched a career long eight innings of five-hit ball, giving the Lycoming College baseball team inspiration for a five-run ninth inning in a come-from-behind 5-2 game one win over Moravian University in Landmark Conference action. In the second game, the Warriors fell, 9-3.
Miller (2-2) dealt 102 pitches to reach the eight inning mark, allowing just the five hits, a walk and a hit batter, allowing an unearned run and striking out seven. After Moravian (9-12 overall, 3-5 Landmark) scored a second inning unearned run, only one more runner reached third base until the bottom of the ninth inning, as Miller let two runners on base just once, in the eighth inning when he induced a flyout to end the inning with runners on first and second.
Lycoming (5-17 overall, 2-9 Landmark) was held to two hits and two walks in the first seven innings by starter Ross Huffman, who struck out seven. After a scoreless eighth, Lycoming got started quick in the top of the ninth, as junior Evan Mok delivered a double down the line to lead off before sophomore Zachary Pleska was hit by a pitch.
The pair moved up a bag with a double steal, setting up sophomore and Montoursville graduate Nick Reeder, who delivered a looping liner that fell just out of reach of a diving second baseman, scoring the tying run. Freshman Ryan Tan followed with an infield single that score Pleska. A sac bunt squeezed in Reeder and a walk set up junior Jacob Schilling, who singled to left to drive in the fourth run of the frame. Schilling scored after sophomore Greg Wirin singled, coming home on a wild pitch.
Lock Haven fell twice to No. 6 Millersville, 14-0 and 3-1 in a PSAC Eastern Division road doubleheader.
In game one, the Marauders led 12-4 in hits and jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on their way to a 14-0 victory in game one.
Francisco Taveras, Greg Cristino, Zachary McEllroy and Cam Gracey recorded hits for Lock Haven.
In the second game, the Bald Eagles quieted the Marauders to just three runs, while matching Millersville with six hits, but Lock Haven scored its lone run in the seventh inning.
Will Stambaugh pitched a gem against the sixth-best team in the country Millersville, allowing just two earned runs, while striking out a pair in six-complete innings of work.
Six Bald Eagles found the hit column, led by doubles from Taveras, Jaxon Pupo and Nick White.
Mansfield lost a doubleheader against No. 12 ranked East Stroudsburg, 2-1 and 6-2.
In game one, the Mountaineers had an early opportunity in the first after Ryan Scott and Jacob Houtz each singled to put runners on first and third. However, the Mounties couldn't push across a run as the game remained tied at zero.
Mansfield once again created traffic on the bases in the second with a Ryan Verbonitz walk and Jeffrey Coakley single putting runners on the corners with only one out. The ESU started buckled down for the second straight inning, retiring the next two batters via the strikeout and keeping the game knotted at 0-0.
Houtz got the scoring started in the top of the third with a solo home run over the left-field wall.
Austin Lewis started game three of the series striking out eight of the first 12 ESU batters and faced the minimum over the first four innings.
• Penn College knocked off Cairn University, 29-6, in a United East men’s lacrosse game. The Wildcats improved to 1-0 United East, 5-5 overall, while the Highlanders fell to 0-1, 2-5.
Penn College took a 10-1 lead after the first quarter and a 15-5 advantage at halftime. The Wildcats outscored Cairn, 14-1, in the second half.
Aidan McFalls led all scorers with seven goals and A.J. Dotson added a six. Same Nice, Graham Purdy, Jesse Weick, and Connor Stank each finished with two goals. Dotson finished with a game-best five assists for the Wildcats and Michael Stank was 20 of 29 on faceoffs.
• Abby Katrinak totaled nine points to highlight the Lock Haven women’s lacrosse team's impressive, 21-5, bounce back win over Edinboro. Lock Haven improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC this season to continue its best start since 2016.
The 21 goals scored for the Haven are the most this season and the Bald Eagles are now outscoring their opponents 128-91. Lock Haven led 29-11 in shots-on-goal for the afternoon.
Katrinak powered the Bald Eagles on offense as she netted five goals and dished out four assists to total nine points. Katrinak was very efficient, connecting on 5-of-6 shot attempts.
Josey Shaffer finished behind Katrinak with four goals, while also dishing out an assist, totaling five points.
Bucknell ran into a hot-shooting No. 17 Navy team on Saturday, and the Midshipmen ran away with a 21-6 win. Katie Browne paced the Bison with two goals and an assist.
Taylor McClain and Caroline Sheridan both had a goal and an assist, and Allie Boyce also scored for the Bison, who fell to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League. This was Bucknell's third road game in a seven-day span, all against upper-division Patriot League squads in Navy, Lehigh, and Holy Cross.
Navy (9-3, 3-1 PL) received four goals and three assists from Emily Messinese, four goals from Tori DiCarlo, and three goals each from Kat McAteer and Lola Leone. The Mids scored their 21 goals on 36 shots.
Regan Sansiviero also had a multi-point game for the Bison with a pair of assists, and Colleen Kazanjian finished with 10 saves.
• Freshman Will Eberz posted a second-round 80 to finish in a tie for 34th to lead the Lycoming College men's golf team at the Pennsylvania D3 Classic at the par-72, 6,605-yard Penn State Golf Course Blue Course.
Eberz posted 12 pars on the day, including six on the back nine where he was 3-over-par with a 39. Eberz finished 34th in a field of 103 golfers, helping the Warriors finish in 17th in a field of 18 teams, as the team notched a second-day 361 for a two-day total of 704.
Senior Ian Plankenhorn, a Montoursville graduate, and sophomore Dylan Seck each carded a 92 and sophomore Kyle Davis, a North Penn-Liberty graduate, added a 97 to round out the scoring four.
