Two injured when tractor-trailer plunges over embankment at Route 15 spur

By Philip A. Holmes 1 min read

Both the driver and his passenger were injured Thursday night when their tractor-trailer truck, loaded with boxes of dog biscuits, crashed on the Route 15 South spur, a half a mile north of the Maynard Street interchange, according to Williamsport police.

The trailer was ripped open by the accident, which occurred about 6:10 pm. Close to 60 yards of guardrail was destroyed by the wreck. The entire rig traveled about 30 feet down an embankment. City firefighters said both men were already out of the cab when they arrived on the scene. However, the passenger, who suffered head and arm injuries was immediately loaded into a Stokes basket and lifted up to the highway through a rope-rescue system. Both men were taken by ambulaces to UPMC Williamsport. This section of the spur, which has been notorious for numerous crashes over the years, was expected to remain closes for three to four hours. Fire police were directing all Route 15 South traffic onto other routes.
