One dead in Williamsport shooting; no one yet charged

Williamsport police and the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred about 2:10 p.m. Saturday.

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was shot to death in a second-floor apartment in the 400 block of Grant Street, investigators said.

Very few details were released as of late Monday morning.

Officers and paramedics were dispatched to the apartment to investigate a report of an expired person with a gunshot wound, a police captain confirmed.

No arrests have been made, and the captain declined to say if the gunman and victim knew one another.

No information was released on the motive for the shooting.

The Lycoming County Coroner’s Office was notified hours later and a deputy coroner pronounced the victim officially dead at 9:36 p.m., Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. said.

The victim’s identity was expected to be released later, Kiessling said, adding that an autopy on the victim

was being performed today at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown. He said the victim did not live in the apartment, and that the man’s address was unknown at this time.

District Attorney Thomas Marino said this morning his office was assisting city police in “gathering evidence,” but he had no additional information to release.
