Man fights off gunman during attempted robbery in Williamsport
A man who “stopped in a dark alley to relieve himself” early Saturday morning suddenly was the victim of an attempted robbery when he felt a “firearm pushed up against his head,” according to a city police affidavit.
“Empty your pockets,” the alleged gunman, identified as Anthony Oglesby Jr., told the victim.
As the victim turned around, the two men struggled for the gun and a shot was fired, police said.
This occurred at West Third Street and Government Place about 12:20 a..m.
The victim, who was not injured, told police “his right ear was ringing as a result” of the firearm going off,” the affidavit stated.
The victim overpowered Oglesby, disarmed him, emptied the firearm “and tossed” the items, police were told.
The victim managed to hold the 41-year-old Ogelsby in a headlock until officers arrived on the scene, police said, adding that a witness called 911.
The handgun recovered at the scene was stolen from Philadelphia in 2022, police said.
Oglesby, of 418 Third Ave., apartment 1, was arraigned hours later before District Judge Gary Whiteman on felony charges of attempted robbery, aggravated assault, convicted felon not to possess a firearm , carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property as well as recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor. He was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
