Williamsport man charged with fraud after allegedly passing bad checks

Charges have been filed against Kyle M. Lane, 39, of 427 Cemetery after he allegedly provided two fraudulent checks to a local grocery store in Jersey Shore, Lycoming Regional police said in an affidavit.
The supermarket contacted police after Jersey Shore State Bank returned a check in the amount of $542.80 issued to Lane and cashed on Nov. 26, 2024, which was linked to Colonial Property Management, LLC.
During the investigation, it was learned that Colonial Property Management was based out of New Jersey, but was listed as having an address in a Williamsport office building. Upon further inspection, no office for such a business was found at the address, authorities said in an affidavit.
A second check allegedly cashed by Lane and bearing his driver’s license number, on the previous day in the amount of $559.64 was linked to a closed account listed to Extreme Builders, LLC, which police linked to an address in Lock Haven, which turned out to be an attorney’s office.
Lane was arraigned by District Judge Denise Dieter on one count each of passing a forged or altered check, theft by unlawful taking, theft by receiving stolen property, passing bad checks and two counts of theft by deception and jailed at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
