High-speed chase ends in crash on Lycoming Creek Road

A lengthy high-speed chase late Tuesday morning ended with the driver who was being pursued crashing his Hyundai Elantra into a concrete barrier in the 1900 block of Lycoming Creek Road, according to state police.

The driver, who suffered head and facial injuries, was immediately detained by troopers, who attended to his injuries until city firefighters and paramedics arrived and took over his care.

The adult male, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport following the 11:15 a.m. crash. A state trooper followed the ambulance to the hospital.

Charges are pending against the motorist, who is also a person of interest in an aggravated assault case reportedly in the Muncy area, according to troopers at the crash scene.

Police were arriving at the man’s home in the neighborhood of Lycoming Creek and Log Run roads in Loyalsock Township to question him about the assault as he reportedly was pulling away from his house in the Hyundai.

The troopers followed the car and soon a pursuit was underway. The pursuit reportedly continued to Bloomingrove Road and into the city and eventually west on High Street, ending with the crash on Lycoming Creek Road in Old Lycoming Township.

Numerous troopers along with sheriff deputies, city police and Lycoming Regional police officers rushed to the scene. City and Old Lycoming Township firefighters also responded.

Northbound traffic was diverted around the crash through the Weis parking lot.
