While a dog got out and a firefighter rescued a cat, a second feline perished in the fire, officials confirmed.

Dispatched to investigate an oven fire, firefighters were faced with heavy black smoke pouring out of the front door when they arrived on the scene.

The fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes, officials said. While the fire itself was contained to the kitchen, there was heat and smoke damage throughout the house. Damage could be as high as $50,000, officials said.
