Williamsport teen out on bail for alleged shooting, charged in gun store burglary

A second person, Tahir Dixon, has been arrested on charges for his alleged involvement in the burglary at the National Range and Armory, 531 Washington Blvd., during the early-morning hours of June 6, according to city police.

Dixon, who was out on bail for a violent crime when the burglary was committed, faces a series of numerous offenses, including several felonies, police said.

Taken in the burglary were two rifles, police said. Dixon, 18, of 604 Thomas Ave, Williamsport, has now been charged with burglary, theft, receiving, criminal trespassing, criminal mischief and possession of an instrument of crime (a brick that was used in an attempt to break a window), police said. When the brick failed, another person used half a cinder block to smash a window, police said.

Dixon has been arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle and initially locked up in the Lycoming County Prison, but has since been released on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 31.

At the time of the break-in, Dixon was waiting to go on trial on city police charges for his alleged involvement in a shooting that took place near Second Avenue and Waltz Place about 12:10 p.m. last Sept. 28. Investigators believe Dixon fired several shots at a passing Nissan. He was held for court on all charges following a preliminary hearing in late January.

Besides Dixon, police charged 18-year-old Shamier James Gadson, of Philadelphia, with allegedly taking part in the break-in at the National Range and Armory. Arrested in late June, Gadson was recently held for court on all charges.

Like Dixon, Gadson also was allegedly involved in a city shooting – this one in the 500 block of West Edwin Street in August 2022. He was 16 at the time. All charges were later dropped in juvenile court after Gadson reportedly pled to a firearms violation. He remains locked up in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Four juveniles were also involved in the armory break-in, however it was unknown if they were ever arrested.

Starting at $2.99/week.
