South Williamsport police is the latest law enforcement department to file charges against Lycoming County Prison inmate Jason Robert Yahn, who has been jailed since early May 7 when he was involved in a pursuit with city police that ended at Memorial Avenue and Grier Street where he sideswiped a car and crashed into a parked pickup truck. Borough police have charged him with fleeing police as well as three summary offenses, including driving with a suspended license.

The charges stem from an incident on the afternoon of March 29 when Yahn, 42, formerly of the 1100 block of McGill Hollow Road, Linden, was seen operating an all-terrain vehicle along a set of railroad trucks in the 2400 block of Riverside Drive in DuBoistown, police said. Yahn, who is now homeless, was seen riding the unregistered vehicle on nearby Valley Street and Arch Street, police said. When the officer activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and siren on the Arch Street bridge, and attempted to catch up with him, Yahn “looked back at the officer and proceeded to accelerate,” it was stated in an affidavit. Yahn turned west on Hiawatha Boulevard and drove around numerous gates and onto terrain inaccessible to the officer. Arraigned recently before District Judge William Solomon, Yahn, already incarcerated as well on several bench warrants, remains behind bars in lieu of an additional $5,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
