Teen faces charge for running from an officer

Justice Daniel Williams, 18, of 1640 Sherman St., Williamsport, has been charged with evading arrest or detention when he bolted from a Montoursville borough police officer during a routine traffic stop in the 800 block of Washington Boulevard about 12:40 a.m. on May 18, according to an affidavit. The officer was taking part in a DUI roving patrol detail and had stopped the vehicle for traffic violations. Williams was a passenger in the vehicle, police said. The officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the passenger section of the car, and he also noticed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, the court document stated. The teen fled on foot when the officer told him and the driver that they both were going to be searched. Williams has since waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Aaron Biichle on the charge and is free on $5,000 bail. No information was provided about the driver.
