Williamsport man allegedly stole sterling silver from landlord
While renting a room at a woman’s city home, Thomas Caputo is alleged to have stolen thousands of dollars worth of her sterling silver, according to an affidavit filed at Frey’s office.
Although some of the silver pieces have been returned to the victim, there “still is a large number of collectables missing,” police were told. The woman claims that her collectable set was appraised at about $14,000, police said.
Caputo, 57, is also alleged to have sold some of the silver to Cillo’s Antiques and Coins, police said, adding that the business was unaware the items were stolen. Cillo paid $150 for them, police said.
The theft was reported to police at the end of July. Caputo, arraigned before Gardner on felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property plus one misdemeanor charge of theft by deception, is free on $35,000 bail.
