Route 15 South from Market Street in South Williamport to Route 54 in Clinton Township was closed for much of Monday afternoon following what state police are calling a freak accident. A mother and father along with a juvenile family member were taken by ambulances to UPMC Williamsport to be treated for injuries they suffered when a tire shattered the windshield of their southbound car about 1:30 p.m. Police said the tire came off the front driver’s side of a Ford passenger car that was heading north on Route 15. It is believed the tire bounced once, cleared a Jersey barrier and crashed into the windshield of of an oncoming car before landing along the road, police said. The other driver was not hurt, police said. Route 15 was reopened at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
