Two fires break out minutes apart; one near Muncy another in Williamsport

Several volunteer fire companies rushed to Kepner Farm Supply at 429 Maple Lane, just off Route 442, in Muncy Creek Township about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday when a fire erupted in a three-story soybean dryer, according to Muncy Area Fire Chief Scott Delany.
Smoke was pouring from the top of the structure, which resembles a silo, when firemen arrived on the scene, Delany said. “It looked a lot worse than it was,” he added. Firefighters were able to get the fire extinguished using less than 200 gallons of water. There were no reports of injuries and damage to the dryer itself appeared to be minimal, he said, adding that the cause of the fire was undetermined.
At about the same time, Williamsport firefighters were dispatched to a Frito-Lay at 220 Reach Road when an industrial fryer reportedly caught fire. While no details were available, all fire apparatus were available in about 30 minutes.
