Penn College student charged with arson

A 19-year-old Pennsylvania College of Technology student from Wellsboro faces charges related to allegedly setting off a firework inside a dorm room Tuesday, which led to smoke conditions and the evacuation of students in the building and a search that revealed further explosive material allegedly possessed by the student.

Christopher C. Greenawalt was arraigned before District Judge Kirsten A. Gardner on charges of arson and related offenses.

The smoke was discovered at 11:29 a.m. Tuesday at Lancaster Hall, 250 Rose St., according to Penn College Police.
