South Williamsport basement fire quickly extinguished

Firefighters rushed to 1723 Riverside Drive in South Williamsport (middle blue house in photo) about 3:10 p.m. Monday to douse a basement fire. Williamsport firefighters had the fire knocked down in a matter of minutes, according to borough fire Capt. Ernie Freas. Under an alliance that went into effect last month between the borough’s volunteer fire company and the Williamsport Bureau of Fire, city firefighters respond on all reported structure fires in South Williamsport. A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which temporarily displaced two tenants, Freas said. Firefighters from the borough, Loyalsock Township, DuBoistown and Montoursville also responded to the scene.
