A Williamsport area man escaped injury when his large dump truck crashed and overturned at Grimesville and Round Hill roads about 10:30 a.m. Friday, city police said.
After unloading dirt or shale, the dump truck driver pulled out of a driveway at the top to Round Hill Road unaware that the truck’s bed was still raised, police and city firefighters said.
The raised bed snagged an overhead powerline with such force it snapped a utility pole, taking down additional powerlines and caused the truck to overturn as the driver was making his way toward Grimesville Road, police said.
The driver climbed out of the truck on his own, fire officials said.
PPL crews soon arrived and shut off all power to the lines impacted by the crash. Numerous properties were without electrical service.

About 10 minutes before the accident, a brush fire broke out in the 100 block of Anna Road in Old Lycoming Township, about two miles west of the crash scene.
This fire burned just over two acres, and was close to two homes, but firefighters stopped it from reaching those properties. The cause of the fire was careless burning, township Fire Chief Zach Nugent said.
