Lycoming County district judges kept busy with arraignments in variety of cases

City police charge man with terroristic threats

While wielding a pair of hedge shears over his head in the 2900 block of West Fourth Street on July 22, Shaun Ray Wettlaufer told another man “I’m going (expletive) kill you. I’m gonna (expletive) you up bubb,” it was alleged in a city police affidavit The alleged threats occurred at a former business, where the two men were employed at the time, police said, adding that the victim had confronted Wettlaufer about allegedly stealing items that did not belong to him.

Already on probation in Northumberland County for criminal mischief, Wettlaufer, currently staying at an addiction treatment center in Luzerne County, was arraigned last week before District Judge Christian Frey on charges of terroristic threats, theft, receiving stolen property and harassment. He was released on $15,000 bail. A preliminary. hearing is scheduled for late March.

Two charged with endangering the welfare of children

Anthony Joseph Machi, 46, of 860 Route 405, Hughesville, and Alissa Marie Henderson, 20, of 426 Third St., Montoursville, have both been charged with endangering the welfare of a child for engaging in sexual acts with one another in a car while a 14-year-old girl, who also was in the vehicle, watched, state police alleged in an affidavit.

The alleged incident occurred in Indian Park in Montoursville in late November 2023, police said. Machi was recently arraigned before District Judge Gary Whiteman and released on $10, 000 bail. He will have a preliminary hearing later this month while Henderson, who faces an additional misdemeanor charge of corrupting the morals of a minor, has already waived her preliminary hearing. She too is free on bail.

Man charged with receiving stolen property

When Curtis Catherman showed up at the emergency room at UPMC Williamsport to be treated for “some kind of medical issue”on the morning of Jan. 31, he had with him a pair handcuffs and a binder that contained Williamport police paperwork, according to an affidavit.

Catherman, 38, “refused to give any information about himself and could not confirm” a home address, police said. He was identified only by a state driver’s license, police added.

It was unknown how he obtained the handcuffs or the police binder. When he was taken before Frey to be arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of receiving stolen property, he was polite, but would not answer any questions, according to court records. Catherman was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Another charged in whitetail deer-killing case

A second man, Nyreece Kyrell Speck, who has a history of aggravated assault arrests, has been charged for his alleged participation in the killing of a whitetail deer in the 500 block of Arch Street in the city during the early-morning hours of last March 8, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Speck, 26, of 218 Smith Court Circle, Linden, was one of two passengers in a vehicle driven by Mark Edward Kimble Jr., who “maliciously ran over a whitetail deer, breaking its legs and neck, eventually killing it,” it was stated in a court document.

Speck and the second passenger grabbed the legs of the dead dear and began to carry it to Kimble’s vehicle when they were stopped by a city police officer who saw all of it while on routine patrol.

The two men dropped the dear, but then Speck “aggressively kicked the deceased deer. He then proceeded to repeatedly step on its head and shoulder while mumbling regarding wanting some Jerry from the dead animal,” it was stated in an affidavit.

Charged with unlawful killing and taking of big game and unlawful use of lights while hunting, both misdemeanors, Speck waived his preliminary hearing last week before Frey and remains free on 10,000 bail.

Kimble, 19, of 320 School House Road, was charged last year for his alleged involvement.

Speck was arrested last March 9 for allegedly assaulting a paramedic who was treating him for breathing difficulty at city police headquarters.

In 2022, Speck was arrested for fighting with state troopers inside Sheetz on Route 220 in Woodward Township.

City woman allegedly passed counterfeit bill

Kimberly Ann Victoria McCray, 33, 1211 Isabella St, has been charged with forgery and attempted theft by deception after she tried to buy merchandise with a counterfeit $100 at Family Dollar, 1221 W. Fourth St., on Oct. 13, city police alleged in an affidavit. On both sides of the bill were the words printed in bold lettering “Motion Picture Purposes,” police said. McCray waived her preliminary hearing last week before Frey and was released on $25,000 bail.

Domestic disturbance leads to incarceration

Arriving at the scene of a domestic disturbance at Robert Degree’s home at 702 Penn St. on Jan. 21, city police interviewed a woman who alleged that Degree, her former boyfriend, struck her multiple times in the head as well as her hands and arm with his fists and a rope to a dog toy, it was stated in an affidavit. Officers noticed a large bruise in the middle of the woman’s forehead as well as injuries to her hands and upper arm. There was bleeding at the back of her head, police said.

Arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle, Degree, 47, was held for court last week on charges of simple assault and harassmentfollowing his preliminary hearing, and he remains jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.
