No one was was injured when multiple gunshots were fired at an occupied home near Dove Street and Prospect Avenue, in the city’s Newberry neighborhood, about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Williamsport police said.
A bullet went though at least one window, and at least three others left small holes in the siding of the property.
Police did not know what was the motive for the shooting, and investigators would not confirm if the property had actually been the intended target.
One neighbor, a 40-year-old father, was in an upstairs room with his teenage son, who was playing a video game, heard the gunfire and thought it was part of the video.
“I heard this pop pop pop pop. I turned and looked at the video game, which was a shooting-war game,” the man said.
His brother, who was visiting from Trout Run, corrected him and said “No, it was coming from outside. Those were gunshots.”
The city resident said “I looked out my window after a little bit and saw all the cops. The lady who lived in the house (that was hit) came out screaming and yelling,” he added.
“I heard her say there were kids in the house and someone had fired shots into her windows. She was then getting people out of the house,” he said.
Another neighbor, a retired health care worker, said her husband was just bringing in their dog “when we heard several gunshots, probably six or seven.”
She went on to say that her husband saw someone running west towards Wayne Avenue.
“This can happen no matter where you live. It happens all over,” she said, referring to the street violence. “It’s just the way life is today, ” she added.
