Fire levels cabin near Dushore
DUSHORE – A fire late Friday night destroyed a one-story 1,200- square foot recreational cabin at 18 Boomerang Lane in Cherry Township, according to Dushore Fire Chief John Yonkin.
A Mildred volunteer firefighter suffered a shoulder injury and was treated at the Geisinger Medical Center at Pennsdale and released.
The blaze, which was reported by a neighbor about 10 p.m., could be seen from a considerable distance, Yonkin said. “You could see it a long ways away. There was quite a glow in the sky,” he said.
No one was at the cabin at the time of the fire.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, about two miles southeast of here, the structure was engulfed in flames, and part of the cabin had already started to collapse, Yonkin said. “It had pretty much burned up when we got there,” he said.
Dushore firefighters were assisted by additional manpower and tankers from Mildred, Muncy Valley and Forksville.
It took about an hour for firefighters to put the fire out, Yonkin said, adding the origin and cause of the blaze will remain undetermined.
Damage was estimated at $150,000, and the owner, a Sullivan County resident whose name was not released, had fire insurance, Yonkin said.
