Pedestrian critically injured after being struck on I-180 near Fairfield Road
A man trying to return to his parked motorcycle was critically injured Friday night when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe as he was attempting to cross I-180 West, just west of the overpass at Fairfield Road, according to state police. The accident occurred about 6:15 p.m. The victim, whose age and address were not known, was rushed by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport. Police said the westbound motorcyclist had stopped and parked his vehicle in the north berm. He apparently crossed the two westbound lanes, perhaps to get something, and then as he attempted to return to his bike, he stepped directly into the path of the SUV, which was in the passing lane, police said. All traffic was detoured off the highway, but motorists could get right back on since the accident took place between the off-ramp and on-ramp at the Fairfield Road interchange. In this photo, troopers are gathering information at the scene.
