A male pedestrian critically injured Friday night when he was struck by an SUV on Interstate 180 near Montoursville has died, the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office confirmed.
The victim died in the operating room at UPMC Williamsport shortly after 8 p.m., a deputy coroner said.
His identity was expected to be released sometime Saturday.
It was believed the victim was traveling west on a motorcycle, which he stopped and parked in the north berm, police said.
He apparently went across both westbound lanes from the north to the south berms, perhaps to get something, police said. He was then struck by a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe in the passing lane when he attempted to return to his cycle, police said.

The pedestrian, whose age and address were not known, was rushed to UPMC Williamsport in Montoursville. The driver stopped and was being questioned by state troopers at the scene.
All traffic was detoured off the highway, but motorists could get right back on since the accident took place between the off-ramp and on-ramp at the Fairfield Road interchange. Still, the accident caused westbound traffic to back up for about a half a mile.
