Air service could return as soon as mid-October says airport authority

As soon as mid-October, air service could return to the Williamsport Regional Airport, according to Frank Pellegrino, chairman of the Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority.
Speaking at the authority's meeting Thursday, Pellegrino said that negotiations with another carrier have reached the point where the carrier had sent a Letter of Intent (LOI) just before the meeting and a contract earlier in the day. Both will be reviewed by the authority's solicitor.
"We're very, very close," Pellegrino told the authority.
Although he did not reveal the name of the carrier, he did disclose that the service will start with one flight a day.
"We're going to start with one to show we can do it," he said.
"We pack that-they'll put it in the contract-they've already told us that they will start a second one immediately. Within 45 days to market they would bring in a second flight. They'd allow us to pick the hub on the second flight," he added.
An announcement is expected next week with more details about the new carrier, Pellegrino said.
Earlier in the day at the county commissioners meeting Pellegrino indicated that the new service would be larger and run a larger 30-seat jet, flying a longer distance.
