Moments after William Adams was suspected of being involved in an illegal drug transaction, an undercover detective, assigned to the county's Narcotics Enforcement Unit, stopped a car in which the 53-year-old man was a passenger in the 400 block of East Third Street in Williamsport about 5:50 p.m. on June24. The detective told Adams to exit the vehicle, it was stated in an affidavit. While he was questioning the man, the detective noticed Adams chewing and swallowing "a small amount of (suspected) crack cocaine," the court document stated. Adams, who also goes by "BJ" Adams and who eventually admitted to swallowing the controlled substance, had in his possession "a crack pipe," the detective said. Charged with tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia, Adams, of 1411 Dewey Ave., has waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Aaron Biichle and is free on $5,000 bail.
