Two Montoursville men were left homeless early Thursday morning when a fire extensively damaged their living room, according to borough Deputy Chief Tyler Schramm.
Only one of the residents was home at the time, and he safely escaped the fire at 1019 Spruce St. with two dogs, Schramm said.
Soon after arriving on the scene about 12:40 a.m., firefighters safely rescued the residents’ two cats, he said.
Using just 200 to 300 gallons of water, firefighters had the fire out under 10 minutes, Schramm said.
While the fire damage was comtained to the living room, there was water and smoke damage throughout the house he added.
The two residents, whose names were not released, are receiving emergency assistance from the American Red Cross.
Cpl. Nathan Birth, a state police fire marshal, is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire.
Besides the borough, firefighters from Williamsport and Loyalsock Township responded to the the scene. For a short period of time, Eldred Township firemen stood by with one apparatus at the borough’s firehouse on Broad Street, ready to handle any other emergencies.
